Why can't I find pants that fit!!!!!

I need new jeans very desperately. I wear them daily to work and have been barely getting by with a pair that is much too big - not that I lost any weight, they didn't fit well to begin with. I tried to buy new jeans. Thinking ahead, I went to the store website and looked at their size chart. I go to the store and pick out 6 pairs to try on. 1 was too tight, all the others were much too big. So I go a size down, and there is a slight improvement. I find a size that fits everywhere but the waist - there is that stupid gap in the back. I wasted an hour of my time (technically 3 hours because I spent 2 hours at the mall last weekend trying pants on at 5 different stores). I am not a big or small girl. I am average. Why oh why can designers not just make pants that fit or at least go by the specifications for that size!

I really wish there were some kind of real conformity in clothing sizes. Jeans are about the worst for it too, because then you have the question of "fits" like relaxed or skinny, and rises, and all that junk as well as the actual measurements. I have a really hard time finding jeans too. I'm one of those people that can't wear regular sizes well but plus sizes fall off me... I just fall in that gap somewhere. So I have a horrible time finding clothes of any type.

You're lucky to have nice places like that to shop. I never get out of my little town, and thus don't have many options. :(

Oh, we live right outside of New Orleans. The area outside of New Orleans is huge (about 6 different cities) that get clumped into the "New Orleans Metro Area" title. We have 3 malls, a few outlet malls, and a lot of stand alone shops. The smallest town I believe I ever lived in still had one mall that was okay and that is actually where I got my addiction to the Buckle and Pac Sun.

Ah, I was in New Orleans for a bit when I was younger, so I can understand that. I live in a really tiny town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, land of snow, wildlife, and more snow. We technically have a mall in my town, but many of the storefronts are empty.

I wonder how they manufacture jeans. I basically have the same problem you do and it's so frustrating. I wear a size 10 to fit my waist but can wear an 8 because my legs are so skinny, thus the nickname "birdlegs." I do like the stretchy material as they are more comfortable. I understand your concerns and frustrations and know you are not alone. Merry Christmas.

Hmm. Have you thought about buying pants that have skinny legs? I tried on a pair at old navy and they were much too tight for what I like, but I bet they would work for you.

I recently bought some black slacks from Old Navy and they great in the back porch area but not the legs. If I wore tight fitting jeans/pants I'd look like a pelican. It's pretty pitiful....lol Also, I'm 61 and tight jeans on this body wouldn't be cool. Atleast that's my opinion. Thanks for posting this discussion.

I think Newport News has some special jeans program... But I usually go to the Levi's store. They have all different cuts, lengths, styles, etc. I usually do well there. And then there is also Delias. If you don't have a store, they have a website. They sell most of their jeans by waist size in inches, and then you can order by length size as well.

Oh dear, I have the same problem. It's because I have a huge thigh and I'm big on the hip area. So it is difficult to find a pair that really fits me. I would go for stretch pants or if all else fails I will have it customized or better yet wear a skirt.LOL :)

Do you have any tips to finding a good tailor?

I really don't have any good tips. I just usually go to the available tailor on our city..

I feel your pain. I just wish they had jeans in half sizes and maybe that would solve our problems. I don't know if they will ever come up with it, but it would be a good idea to get patented...lol. If you shop at WalMart, the best jeans they have (for me) are the faded glory stretch bootleg jeans. They tend to fit the best and I don't have to worry about them being baggy in the wrong places or having the gap in the back. Maybe you should try those if there is a WalMart near you...that is...if you haven't already!! Also, it's hard to get a perfect fitting jean because most designers base their products on a certain frame of woman/man. They don't consider those of us that aren't made alike. Therefore, we end up going thru hours and hours of trying to find the perfect fit and never finding it. Take care!! ~~Taz~~

I may stop at walmart. I need to go there to buy a crock pot my MIL wants to christmas. Right now I am finding that boot cut isn't the original boot cut in pants. Originally you could pick up a pair of boot cut (or even flare) that had a fairly large bottom on them. Since I carry weight in my thighs I need the larger bottoms. Now boot cut and flares only have the 19" or smaller bottoms so they make your thighs look big unless you can find a pair that are just the right length. Also I am starting to find that I am too short for the regular length and too tall for the short length. This is exactly why I don't buy clothes often.
