I'm bored with my regular tea

I have this need for hot tea but have gotten so I don't really enjoy it anymore. I think I need to try a different kind. I have been drinking just regular Lipton and I know I like Earl Grey but that's hard to find here. I've never been fond of the teas that taste fruity (like the apples and peach kinds) or strongly spicy. So I'm looking for some suggestions on relatively easy to find teas that have a normal but "different" taste than just plain tea. Or even something easy to add to plain tea to make it different...I just do a splash of milk, don't like it with sugar, and no alcohol please as I'm sure the baby wouldn't appreciate it!

oh, you could brew hot red tea as well! but be careful since a lot of the red teas (rooibos) are sold in combination with things you might not like as much...fruity stuff ;) but some come with flowers and other herbs. it tastes 'interesting' but isn't for everyone.

Thanks but I was really looking for hot tea ideas. I'll keep the red tea in mind when it's iced tea weather again.

I just adore tea! I really love Chai tea. It is sweet and a bit spicy, lovely with a splash of milk. There are so many different flavors too. I like plain and vanilla. I know you said not fruity, but I love Pommegranate too. Bigelow makes one called Pommegranate Pizzazz. It is heavenly. My mom drank Constant Comment, kind of an orange spice. Delicious iced.

Thanks Trace! I see you're a puppy too now! I know she doesn't want to come back but maybe mylot will see this level of support and tweak their banning policies. I remember having and enjoying some Chai tea before...no idea what flavor....but had forgotten all about it. I'll have to see if I can find some again.

A lot of people have recommended green tea. It is really good for you. I drink a lot of it, it helps me keep my weight steady. I also got introduced to Rooibos tea. Tetley has a very good Rooibos tea. It is a herbal tea from South Africa. It is red but not fruity. It has a wonderful taste and you don't need milk or sugar. It is also caffeine free. Unfortunately most people seem to prefer it vanilla flavoured, so most of the time I have a hard time finding the plain Rooibos. I also like mint teas and lemon tea. Sometimes I can't sleep at night and I make myself Chamomile tea. If I have heart burn I make myself a cup of fennel tea. Good luck in your search and Merry Christmas.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'd really never heard of red tea until this discussion. The other person said it was good cold but if it's good hot too then I'll have to look for it. I also like mint and lemon in my tea...well not together but you know what I mean. I'm not sure about vanilla, I like it in my coffe but never tried it with tea.

Try adding a squirt of lemon to your hot tea. That always does the trick for me. Or maybe your just burnt out with hot teas? Why don't you try a cold drink like green tea, just to try something different?

I'll have to get some lemon. It's not really a burn out from hot teas because it just started getting cold, more of a burn out of that particular flavor.

I use loose leaf tea so I can mix up my own. We have chamomile, and Night Night tea and a few others that don't taste spicy or fruity. We do have all sorts of flavors though. I always like to add a little bit of the peppermint variety to mine, no matter what tea I am making. I am not fond of hot green tea myself. I think it tastes like strained babyfood greenbeans.

Wow, that sounds like a great idea! I've had mint in iced tea and liked it so I'm definitely going to try some in my hot tea. Baby food green bean tea...maybe I'll pass on the green tea then lol.

You should try out green tea. Lipton makes a few different type - plain, with honey, with lemon, and a few others. We use black tea for our iced tea only and anything hot we usually drink hot tea.

I like withe tea. It taste very good. You can add lemon if you want. I also like little show with tea. Have you seen blooming teas? very spectacular and for me visual effect when drinking tea is very important. I like nice cups or nice special glass for my teas.

I also don't care for the fruit (apple, peach, raspberry) flavored teas. I don't like the taste of Earl Grey either. I do like flower teas, hybiscus-mint, jasmine and stuff. I also like things like peppermint, or other mint teas. I do like orange and spicy teas like Constant Comment by Bigalow tea. Hope these suggestions can help you.

Thanks! I forgot all about mint! The flower teas are good too. Thanks for the good reminders.

Have you tried plain green or white tea? They're really good for you (rich in anti-oxidants, especially the white tea) and tasty. You can get them on their own or with other flavours like green tea with jasmine. My favourite is white tea with vanilla. If you have any local health food shops, they should have a large variety of herbal teas (as opposed to fruit teas) that you might like and they usually carry lots of variations on white and green tea also.

Thanks! I've only had green tea iced not hot and that was 'interesting'. I think I'll look for some white tea, I've never tried that before. We do have one health food shop but I guess the people who run it really try to push their supplements and meditation classes on their customers.

I usually drink iced tea not hot tea. Sometimes I get in the mood for a cup of hot tea. I have several different types of tea that I use. I have plain old Lipton tea, green tea, orange tea, peppermint tea, and one called Tension Tamer.
