Everyone knows that I mess around a little bit on eBay and I have been seeing this but now I have to speak on it. I was just doing some research on eBay for the newest item I am getting ready to sell and I come across this item. “FABULOUS, ONE OF A KIND, NOTHING ELSE LIKE IT”, is what it reads. This is great if you have this one item that you have found nowhere else as that is truth in advertising, for example an original painting, a hand crafted item, etc… But this item was listed the same way in 6 consecutive listings. I am sorry since if there is 6 of them it is not “ONE OF A KIND” nor is it ”NOTHING ELSE LIKE IT”. Yes it is a truly beautiful item and would be a beautiful addition to any home but come on it is not UNIQUE as there are at least 6 of them. This item sold for $4500-6750 each. What do you think? Should listings like this get banned as it is essentially lying and false advertising? That is like the “RARE” Dollar Store item that they sell millions of and you have a box of 1000. Oh well this is just my thoughts. Thank you for reading and replying. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

I have read many ebooks on tips on selling and that is what they tell you to do. They tell you that words like rare get you more bids and therefore more sales & profit. Now, if I was doing this I would not list them all at the same time. Yes, it is lying. I have never done this myself, but I have used hard to find. Only when it was true though. Merry Christmas to you too!

I completely understand what you mean as i have read several of these books. I personally could never see myself doing this as it is just dishonest. I have used rare as I stated above in response #2 but it is only in truely rare situations. I figure if I can type it into my browser and find it then it cannot be rare nor one of a kind. But even if I did I would never as you said "list them all at the same time" not even two of them. Thank you for the response and HAVE A VERY HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON!!!

Thanks! Yes, I sell Gymboree and that is when I would use the "hard to find" phrase. I don't think I have ever used the word rare.

Ebay does a poor job policing their site and for the most part they rely on other Ebayers to alert them to sellers or listing that don't comply with their policies (and even then they are usually too slow to do anything about it) One of a kind, should mean exactly that. There shouldn't be 4 more of them up for auction...LOL. Ebay is what it is... a great place for buyers to grab great deals. Sellers struggle on Ebay and often have to resort to shill bidding to try to get bid totals up. But as a buyer, it a great place to pay pennies on the dollar for some itmes.

What you have said is so very true. It seems as if some people are just lucky with eBay where others are not. As for buyers there are alot of GREAT deals on eBay but you have to beware of the scam artists and read all of the fine print on EVERY auction. Thank you for the response and HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!

No not a "Resale" as they were all from the same seller. He listed 6 identical items as Unique and one of a kind. Cannot be unique nor one of a kind when you are selling 6 of them at the same time! HAHAHA!! Although they are very beautiful, they were neither unique nor one of a kind, Maybe six of a kind. thank you for the reply and HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!

As a long time ebay seller myself I have to tell you those auctions piss me off. Ebay will does a horrible job at policing their auctions and the customer is always right even when they aren't. Sorry to get on my soap box about them but I've had my problems with them over stupid things yet people do thinks like you mentioned and get away with it. Go figure!

I have seen some rare items on ebay and that is simply because I am curious about all sorts of things. It just shocks me that eBay does not police these actions or atleast allow people to report stuff like this. I sold some toys on eBay and before it lists they want you to look at the toy recall list to be sure it is not on it. There should be a setting like this on key words as well since they claim to look after everyone's best interests. Thank you for the response and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
