where is the best place to take family vacations? Which do you prefer? Small weekend getaways or week long trips? My family normally does a few weekend getaways a year to the mountains and then a week long trip to the beach in the summer. This year we are looking for another idea for our big summer vacation. Something fun for the kids but also a bit educational all in one. Any tips? Willing to drive, based in Middle TN

I think a suitable destination depends on the age of the children. Children of 3 to 7 years old would love a trip to a fantasy world like Disneyland. Florida has so many other attractions as well it could make the children have to most fun in their entire lives. Older children of 5 to 10 would be able walk quite a way and enjoy adventures in the mountains. Even older children of 10 plus and teenagers aged 13 to 18 would enjoy a time exploring historical sites like the Pyramids of Egypt. Have you thought of driving up to Canada and take a boat over to Prince Edward Island. You could give them quite a fun time touring to beautiful locations. You could do some wildlife spotting and get your children to learn about photographing the animals. You could combine this with a stay in one of the large Canadian cities. Your children could enjoy visiting a few museums and art galleries. Toronto offers a lot to do and you could do a day trip to the famous waterfall. Montreal has a lovely French flavor to it. Your children would be able to try out speaking a little bit of French there. Good luck choosing the ideal place for a family vacation. Happy traveling to you.

I prefer to go on holidays that are longer than one week, because ones that are shorter don't even seem worth going because by the time i have got use to being there i would be on my way home again. We usually go on holiday for one summer holiday to the seaside for two to three weeks. I think next year we will only be going for one week in the summer because i don't think we will be able to afford two or three. ~Joeys wife

besides the obvious ones like Disney, we enjoy going to Great Wolf Lodge. There are a few of them. The kids love the indoor pool and they wear themselves out and the rooms are really cute. They usually have putt putt and are near shopping and other things to do too.
