I thought I knew what these two terms meant, but now I have heard them used differently than what I thought. So can anyone explain to me what these are, to clear up my confusion? Thanks

Hello SillyChick, LAN stands for Local Area Network. It is a network of computers in a very close area. Landline is the telephone connection that is connected to the telephone exchange through a cable. Hope this clears you. Enjoy Learning.

Ok, that's what I thought. But I have heard people use the word LAN referring to a telephone line not hooked to a computer- that's when the confusion set in. Thanks

Telephone pole for landline? - telephone poles
I think LAN line refers to a phone line connected to a computer and the old landline is one that is connected to the old fashioned telephone poles. Of course I could be wrong....wouldn't be the first time!

Looks like you have your answer so I wont bother to say it again... but it got me to wondering I use an air card and no line but it still has a phone number that it uses to connect me to the Internet ... so what is this?

LAN line refers to the line your cable internet connection goes through. From what we heard from our cable company, lan lines are local, in that there are about so many people use that lan line, usually your nearest neighbors, maybe 10 at the most. Now the fewer people use that lan line, the faster your connection and you pay more. A landline is different. It refers to your local telephone line, the ones that all of us used before cell phones. So to be brief, the landline is for your home phone, the one you plug into the wall.

There is quite difference between LAN and Land line. Wining of LAN is Local Area Networking technically we ca n define LAN as a term of computer networking while land line belongs to telephonic terminology the link between user of a telephone and telephone control room is linked with a line passing through land is called Land line. But Local area networking is always between two and more then two computers of a specific local area.

LAN = local area network. It's a computer term for how a computer connects to the internet. Landline = phone line that is physically plugged into a wall jack.
