Bat House

United States

I bought a bat house 2 years ago. I have not had one bat move in yet. What is the secret to attracting bats? I noticed this group has no members, so an other good question might be how do you attract people to this group.

It depends on what types of bats live in your area I think. I had good luck with planting flowers that attract insects, because the bats will follow the insects (their food source). If you had a water source like a stream nearby, that would increase your chances immensely, though that's not really something easily controlled. I think starting a discussion in an interest is usually enough to attract people to it. I know a lot of times there will be people interested in something that just didn't think to add it when they were doing their interests. For example, I love bats, but would never have thought to add them here until now.

I live on a river, so I thought it would be easy to attract bats. I think I wii get a pole and mount the house on it. I have it on the back of my house, Maybe it needs to have more sun on it.

It depends on what kind of bats you want. I would hope you want fruit bats. It also depends on if there are any very near in your area. So I would use some kind of fruit that fruit bats like. Also, does the bat house tend to be dark during the day, have easy access, etc? Take care

Do you know about Paul Smith's College in NY State? They had a class about bats. They would know more. We both live north of Albany, isn't that something? Take care
