In another twist of stories relating to the escape tigers at the California zoo, the two brothers that survived claim that their plea to the security guard was ignored. "Paul Dhaliwal, 19, and Kulbir Dhaliwal, 23, tried to get help for their friend, Carlos Sousa Jr., after unsuccessful attempts to stop a 350-pound Siberian tiger that had attacked Sousa on Christmas Day, attorney Mark Geragos said." However, the zoo administration dismissed the claim and labeled it as unreliable. "Zoo spokesman Sam Singer dismissed Geragos' claims and noted that the San Francisco police have not even finished their investigation." Looks like everyone is trying to blame someone for the incident an dthe poor tiger remains dead... Full story: http://edition.cnn.com/2008/US/01/02/tiger.attack.ap/index.html

It will be very interesting to see what the truth is in this whole thing. I'm sure the zoo doesn't want to take responsibility because of the eventual lawsuit that will probably be incured. I can't imagine a zoo security guard not pulling his weapon and trying to help, although, who knows how WE would react faced with a similar event. (I'm thinking I would be horrified and shocked into stupidity too...although who knows?!) I'm sure all the facts are not in yet as far as what really happened. I can't imagine the animal attacking without provacation, or feeling threatened in some way, after all, it didn't ever try this before. I think the blame is going to be passed back and forth a zillion times before they actually find the true cause for it all...seems more likely that it's a whole combination of things that lead to this disaster, most importantly being that the enclosure wall was far too low. That alone will tip the scales I'm sure. The whole thing is a darned shame, especially since a young man was killed.
