How do you meditate?

I need to do something different in my life. My husband thinks I'm losing my mind and I just might be. I stress a lot and have tremendous anxiety. I don't want to just go to the doctor and get drugs because then I'm numb to the world. I want to learn how to meditate. I've tried reading about it and then practicing it, but it is really difficult. I last less than a minute before I start worrying about something. Can anyone else relate? Any newbie tricks that I can try. Help, I need my sanity back in order to be a great wife, mom and employee.

Meditation can be as simple or complex as you want it to be really...I mean on a basic level we all meditate daily just by daydreaming..My suggestion..find time every day even if its only 5 mins alone in your room or better yet 15 mins in a nice warm shower and just BREATHE....Dont think about anything (or rather TRY to not think about anything...just "be"...I think the shower would be best because if you are like me and your mind tends to wander and you have trouble slowing it down you can use the feel of the spray on your body as your distraction.....Stand there with your eyes closed and just feel the water touch your skin..if you NEED to think, think about HOW the water feels not just mentally but physically..ACKNOWLEDGE it ya know...feel it massaging your scalp, your back etc..Breathe deeply in through your nose out through your mouth... Thats a general idea at least.....hopefully you find a way that works best for you..good luck

i fell pose is not that important. you can lie down and meditate. the main thing is you should concentrate on something and your concentration should be so high that you will not think of anything else. if you can do that then you are successfull. i hope this will help you

I typically lie in bed, flat on my back with my eyes closed and start cycle breathing. I count to four on each inhalation and exhalation. I continue this as I block out all noises in my environment except my breathing. Then I begin my visualization. I picture myself in a peaceful place, a forest glen, a beach in the sun, beside a stream. I start allowing myself to hear that environment and feel the breeze or the warmth of the sun. If it is a physical sensation that I imagine I start at one body part, usually my feet, and work my way up and imagine other parts feeling the same sensation until every part is calm and bathed in the sensation. Then I slowly reverse the process and return to the real world and promptly fall asleep because I'm so relaxed. I've walked my wife through similar meditation rituals before and she typically falls asleep as the reverse process begins.

Hi gettinggreen, your positiveness of getting out of anxiety itself will bring you from anxiety by 50 per cent. Keep it up. Now about Meditation: May be what I am writing here, you would have tried. If not try this, because this is the best way of doing meditation. Take a candle, light it and keep infront of you, say atleast 10 feet far infront of you. Keep your eyes on the light of the candle. Now start meditating. You will be distracted automatically by your anxiety thinkings. But don't worry, come back once again to the light of candle and meditate. Please remember that it will take a long time for you to fully concentrate with your meditation without distraction. Till that time, you just practice even if you are distracted. After some time you will slowly starting to concentrate more on meditation.Keep doing it. One day you will master your meditation without any kind of distraction. Good Luck.

I like to walk in the woods. But when I lived in cities I walked in the nearest park. Sometimes I sit quietly for 15 or 20 minutes and focus on my breathing, but I actually prefer chanting 'om'. I take a deep full breath in and as I let it out I say the word 'om'. At first I felt a little silly, but it gives me something to focus on and helps me to quiet my mind, especially if I have something going on in my life that's distracting me. Every time I chant my dog gets from whatever part of the house he is in and comes in the room with me. He apparently likes it too. I really highly recommend Russill Paul's 'Yoga of Sound' CDs. Before I go to sleep at night I like to visualize moonlight quietly spilling in through my window, the stillness of the room bathed in its soft glow, until I can feel the serenity of it deep inside me. And actually, everything that I do in my life has become a meditation of sorts. Yoga itself is a meditation. I have become poised and centered with its practice. And like anything, the more you practice the easier it becomes. Happy relaxing!

First I sit then close my eyes, think about very peaceful n comfort place. This place called relaxation place/room. Everytime I go to this place you'll be relax. Second, I tell to myself that I'm a good person, clever, pretty, charming, etc. After that I open my eyes. Repeat it several times. I recommend you to read "Piece of Mind" by Sandy Mc.... I forget the last name. hehe.. ^_^; sorry... In my opinion Yoga will more heplful than meditation. I've not tried it yet but it's worked at my friend's mother. Sometimes I have difficulty with concentration when I meditated. That's why I meditate rarely. I prefer reading psychology books, writing or sleeping to release stress.
