There was a time when AMD did well for only one thing - made for gaming! It dominated for a couple of years due to its benchmarks. But how many does gaming anyways nowadays? Those that want performance, multi-tasking and better use then there is the Intel Processor. When the Intel Core 2 Duo came out it crushed AMD Processors to the ground. With different tests and performance through applications, transfers, graphic testing, game testing it had higher results than the latest AMD X2 or FX chips. I use Intel more often - with their Core 2 Duo and latest Quadcore chips you will find them more convenient now and in the future of home and business computers.

i reality i never was a fan of AMD processor..such as is true this processor seem to be good or high performance just for gaming and stop!!so why buy a computer where the most important compotents for its performance such as processor is good for gaming and stop?i think that computer is much more useful than just for game such as this is just accessory..many people play games ometimes but not buy a pc to play games if this is your purpose you should buy a console not a computer!!as regards new family of intel i think they are very good as performance and high quality and for the moment these are the best in the market..AMD x2 or fx even in its major power are processor that if i can choose i should not buy it..so..normally i prefer intel!!

I have used AMD processor only once before and I could not see that much different except that it tends to heat up form time to time. Now, my computer is having the Intel Centrino Core 2 Duo that have been great for my online activities since I sometimes open up to 36 pages at one time. LOL!

Always been a fan of Intel, and always will be! A while back i had a 1.7ghz AMD, and a 1ghz Intel PIII, and the Pentium out ran the AMD in everything, from games to just overall speed of the system, and both machines had the same RAM, the only difference was the PIII machine had another 20GB of storage. But IMO Intel is the way to go! Especially with the new core 2 duo!

I always preferred Intel over AMD. My cousin had an AMD CPU once and it kept overheating. That was back in AMD's early days, which gave it some really bad marketing. I've always had an Intel and I've never had any problems with it. It's fast and reliable. But I think that the choice depends on what type of machine you'd like to have.

AMD chip - AMD Athlon 64 FX-53 processor in an Asus A8V Deluxe motherboard, and four 512MB DIMMs of Corsair PC3200 memory.
You're right man AMD almost beat Intel a few years back. And still does if you want a cheap computer with very good performance, AMD still your choice. They were beaten based on clock values of Pentium 4 chips and many people thought they were slower. In reality AMD was using 64 bit instructions which actually made them as fast as the P4.
