Normally i don' think too much about the form factor for a mobile device so normally if specs are really good and useful for me form factor is one of the thing i can also accept it and stop!!I think the slide mode it will be better than other also because you can hide as you want he physical keyboards and so may be use the phone just wih touchscreen and in thsi way you can hav a thinner device ...

mmh as regards devices like that normally i check carefully brands as nokia,samsung and palm too...they design good phones and sspecs are really nice for every kind of usage or different needs you can ask to a mobile phone as well!!!
