You're probably used to having a big-screen TV or a cell phone charger in the bedroom, but diversified manufacturer Leggett & Platt Inc. (LEG) (LEG) wants to take things a step further by bringing tech gadgets right into your bed.
The company plans to sell a tricked-out place of rest it calls the Starry Night Sleep Technology Bed, mattresses included. The bed, which was on display at the International Consumer Electronics Show, incorporates features like wireless Internet connectivity, an iPod dock, a surround sound speaker system, LCD projector, dual temperature controls and DVR capability.
Leggett & Platt said the bed also comes with a vibration-detection feature that will elevate that half of the bed 7 degrees if a user is snoring and then return to the original position once the snoring stops.
The company expects the Starry Night to be available in the first half of 2009 for $20,000 to $50,000 depending on which features a buyer chooses.
"I know it sounds like a lot, but you show me somebody that sleeps in a bed with someone that snores; I will show you a person that thinks $20,000 is a very small amount to pay to solve that problem," Mark Quinn, group executive vice president for Leggett & Platt's bedding division, said Tuesday at CES.

Modern living is moving too fast but of course those are for moneyed people. For many of us in the Philippines, we are already very grateful if we have somewhere to lay our backs. Many are even making the streets as home. $20,000 is a million pesos already and many of us can't afford. Good luck to those who have money.

Yeah, it is a way too cool, but it is too expensive for salary-earning people. I don't think that I will ever get one like that though I would like to have one unless it is as cheap as an ordinary one. lol.

Well if I win the lottery I will have one of those beds in every room of my house. I bet the guests would never want to leave if you have a bed like that in the guest bedroom! Right now I can barely afford to buy sheets for the bed I have so I will just have to dream of this bed.

Wow, that's a nice invention.
I've read something about a bed made of soft red balls that connect to each other. You can make anything with them. A chair, a couch, a bed, a house if you want :P
It's like taking one of those couch fortresses to a new level.

That type of bed would be heaven. I do not need to get out of bed to get anything done. I like the idea of the elevation portion to keep one from snoring. That means that I do not need to use two pillows. The price of $50,000 does seem a bit high for all the additions and way out of my price range. Besides I am trying to lose weight, but it would be good for a rather skinny geek.
Too bad it will not be ready until 2009.
