LONDON (AP) - Twins who were separated at birth got married without realizing they were brother and sister, a lawmaker said, urging more information be provided on birth certificates for adopted children. A court annulled the British couple's union after they discovered their true relationship, Lord David Alton said. "Everyone has a right to knowledge about their lineage, genealogy and identity. And if they don't, then it will lead to cases of incest," Alton told The Associated Press during a telephone interview Friday. "They were never told that they were twins. They met later in life and felt an inevitable attraction, and the judge had to deal with the consequences of the marriage that they entered into and all the issues of their separation." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Be careful in choosing a wife or husband for yourself! Make sure that he's not your relative or twin.. It would just lead to incest and I have heard that people who marry with family member will have abnormal children or grandchildren.. is that true? What about the royal families, didn't some do that?

Hello dear glitzypurple. It is really unimaginable that the twins separated at birth got the chance to know each other and have developed their love. I am wondering what they are thinking about it after they got to know the truth that they are twins. I would like to get to know more information about their own idea about their marriage. Thanks.

Oh my God, can you imagine. I mean what are the chances of something like this happening? They have to be pretty slim with all the millions of people in this world, to meet your own twin and have a relationship and then find out. This is really bizarre, if you think about it. I don't think this is something a person has to worry about. It wouldn't happen very often, I think your chances of winning a lottery would be greater than something like this happen. Yes, relatives who have relations can and usually do, result in abnormal babies. Royal families marry into other royal families, not their own.

This shows the danger of separating children when giving them up for adoption, especially if they are the same age. You never know what would happen. I am glad that now when there is an adoption, they try to keep the siblings together. At least they did not have children. I can think of the horrible consequences of a genetic disease, not to mention insanity, being carried over. They should give more information, maybe use codes so that they do not give the name of the birth parents on the birth certificate. I do think the Royal Family married close members, but then they were compelled to marry only those of Royal blood and since the oldest got the most, they usually had only a few children, so there was not that much for them to pick from.

I read that just today. I felt so bad for the couple. Imagine falling in love, planning a life & future together and then finding that out- it must have been awful. I'd be heartbroken if I found out that I couldn't be with my partner because our families hadn't told us we were each adopted.

This is a very interesting story! I do know that my relatives frown very deeply against relatives having intimate relationships! I don't know if it causes damage, I've heard of cousins marrying all the time, and then I've heard some of them have had some unfortunate luck with having offspring!

I feel that it is a shame that the parents of these children were so selfish that they could not set things right with their children. When those children got to a decent age the parents should have informed these children that they were related. They have a right to know about each other. This is the effect of selfishness of the parents.

I've seen this a few other places and this just makes me more of and advocate about not lying to children about where they come from. It's nice adopting a child, but really, you're robbing them of something by not being honest with them. If their parents had been honest about them being adopted and provided them with information, they probably could have prevented this mishap from happening.
