My father-in-law's birthday

Today is my papa-in-law's birthday and we will just cook something for lunch and then I think we will go out for dinner. We didn't get him a gift because it is kinda hard to look for something that he will life. He lives so simply and not too many things really interest him. So I don't know. Maybe we will just get him a cake later. The funny thing is, if he comes with us to get the cake, we get a discount. lol But I don't think it's nice to do that to him on his birthday. We just do that if the cake is a gift for somebody...hehehe Now, I am confused. Can you help me? I am rather fussing because my papa loves me and takes care of me. Whenever I need help doing something, he is always to the rescue. My husband says that papa is doing to me what he hasn't done to them. lol Anyway, I am close with my father in law and I can talk to him about stuff. We live with them.. anyway, any suggestions?

why don't you take him to lunch...just the two of you. Perhaps you have a favorite restaurant that he likes to go to as well. Or ask if there is somewhere that he likes to go that he wouldn't go to by himself. You don't say anything about your mother in law. Has she passed on?

Hi, It is common in people.Maybe you should just buy him a cheap gift or I should rather recommend a hand-made gift because that reflects true love. Cake is not necessary in birthdays, as it is your father-in-law's birthday, make some sweets and enjoy. This would truly not be against your husband.
