My father-in-law's birthday

Today is my papa-in-law's birthday and we will just cook something for lunch and then I think we will go out for dinner. We didn't get him a gift because it is kinda hard to look for something that he will life. He lives so simply and not too many things really interest him. So I don't know. Maybe we will just get him a cake later. The funny thing is, if he comes with us to get the cake, we get a discount. lol But I don't think it's nice to do that to him on his birthday. We just do that if the cake is a gift for somebody...hehehe Now, I am confused. Can you help me? I am rather fussing because my papa loves me and takes care of me. Whenever I need help doing something, he is always to the rescue. My husband says that papa is doing to me what he hasn't done to them. lol Anyway, I am close with my father in law and I can talk to him about stuff. We live with them.. anyway, any suggestions?
