today i was reading a discussion a friend posted and as im rating the posts already there i read something i had to respond to.. it was in response to the discussion and i figure its open game so i responded.. then i posted my own response to the discussion as normal after that.. anyways ive noticed its more common people just post their own response to a discussion and not to anyone elses response to the discussions.. so is it like taboo to respond to someone elses response? i was thinking i should start doing it more often as its more discussion like than just a bunch of posts with no response to the response.. ya know? :) anyways lemme know :D

Hehehe. I've commented on responses in other people's discussions, because I thought thats what it was, a discussion, not private communication between two people, and got ignored totally and been left with the feeling I had committed some kind of faux pas. But I ignore it and continue doing it anyway, because it makes more sense, and it's also more fun that way.

I dont see why you shouldnt respond to a reply in a discussion. It seems logical to me. But I am also new here. So if it is not a acceptable practice please let me know... I'd hate to start off on the wrong foot. I'm new to the site and just learning the ropes. So far its i've seen some interesting conversations. I think that if we were supposted to reply to a reply then we wouldn't have to option to do so.

Rude? Heck, I love it when someone comments on my responses to other discussions. At least I know *someone* bothered to read what I wrote! I think it is proper to leave a comment to any response that gets you thinking. I think you should then also post a response of your own, because a comment alone doesn't get you credit (at least, that is how it used to be).

Yup, for some reason, only one "response" per discussion gets counted by myLot, no matter how many comments you make to other responses. It's a bit of a flaw, really, if they mean to be encouraging a real discussion. I guess they are afraid that friends would just get together and be basically IM-ing to get more points or something.

they could start giving you credit for people who respond to your discussions or something at least.. or maybe a point for every ten responses to responses you do etc.. *shrug* youre right its flawed

ive noticed multiple responses dont tend to give the number by your name any additions.. if you respond to 3 people in 1 discussion you dont get 3 points.. which really bugs me cuz i spend most of my time responding to people not starting new things or looking for new things.. ive done way more than 200 thats for sure! :P

It depends on my mood. Usually I will read the other responses and post something if I have something to contribute. I once got "yelled" at for it and was told that was none of my business since I wasn't the original poster and all that. Most people like it though and I also agree that it is a "discussion" forum and discussion is a series of comments.

I'm sure I wasn't agreeing with the person, but that's part of discussing also. I just like to talk to people, and this is a good place to do it :)

If i see something i want to add to someone else's post then i'll add it i dont think its rude, i think it gets the discussion going better, even though i tend to go a little off topic when i do do that, i also add my two sense in my own response though. I have seen many people do the same, i think its A-OK and is good to keep the discussion going longer, and then more people will respond to it.

I don't see anything wrong with it. There are a couple of times I think a person might be overdoing it, but that's them. Oh and I've been like that too so, what can you do? =P There are times where you could just address other responses specifically in your own main response. It can save you a bit of work.
