What's the importance of getting a STAR?

I'm just wondering, mylot users are craving to get a star. So what is really the purpose of it?

it can show how well we are liked by other mylot users. i care about the number in my star so i start discussions and give responses carefully so they they can be popular with others. when i reached 100 posts, i got a star with 8 i it. now it becomes 9. i am working hard for 10.

Know what, when I reached my 100th posting, I got a star with 8 on it. Just like you. I'm just wondering how did it happened, supossedly it starts at 5, right?

I think the star is earned by making your 100th response but it is supposed to show your Mylot reputation of how people have ranked you or rated you. I used to have a 10 and dropped to a 9 but I really don't know why it happened for sure.
