Healthier alternatives to junk food

I have been working on eating healthier lately, and I would like to know what snacks you find to be satisfying, but healthy. I love to snack on peanuts. I also like apples with peanut butter. Both of these snacks are good because they are filling, so I don't eat as much as I would if I was snacking on chips or something else. Can you give me examples of healthy alternative you eat, especially ones that satisfy cravings for something sweet or salty.

Well of course my standby is popcorn. I often put various spices on it to switch up the taste! I particularly like to put chili powder or cumin on it! For something sweet I use the 'skinny cow' ice cream sandwiches or the Weight Watchers popcicles that have the oreo-like cookie coating on them. I also order some sugar free syrups from davinci.com and put a squirt or two of those in my coffee...yum...and very sweet! (the caramel one is good as well as the pralines and cream!) I also eat apples but I dip them in the sugar free caramel dip that is sold in the produce section. I also like to core an apple and put it in the microwave with some of the caramel on it...and a sprinkle or two of cinnamon or other things! Tastes like apple pie!

Popcorn is a really great snack, but if not eaten in moderation it can also be fattening. You also add calories by pouring butter on it too. My healthy snack of choice would be the lightly flavored rice cakes. They are really tastey and have very few calories. They are pretty satisfying too, if you have a sweet tooth like I do. I love the caramel flavor.

Of course if you add lots of butter it's not good, but without butter, just a little salt and some spices, it can be very good. I used to eat a lot of popcorn, but not lately, not really sure why. I'll have to start again.

Yes, you are right. I didn't mention that mine is air popped and has no butter! I too, love the caramel rice cakes!

I like to snack on yogurt and string cheese. Almonds are supposed to be good for you in moderation. Air popped popcorn with various spices are good. Pretzels are good for a salty craving.

I like string cheese, and popcorn. Not a huge fan of yogurt- I have to be in the mood for it, and I'm picky about the flavors. Thanks!

I like celery bites...I fill the celery with a mixture of cream cheese, crushed pineapple and walnuts crushed or fine chopped. I also eat apples with plain yogurt or peanut butter. Some times I eat bite size cheese squares that has been pressed with fine chopped almond. I also like pear halves on lettuce with cottage cheese. Mixed dried fruit and nuts are a good snack. I am a type 2 diabetic so I eat about 6 times a day. 3 regular meals and 3 snacks. I have to count the carbohydrates and watch out for anything that may cause a spike in my blood sugar. I do have a recipe for healthy potato chips on my blog that everyone who has tried it said they really does like them. You can make them with white or sweet potatoes. I add more recipes almost every day. It has a lot of healthy recipes on it. http://low-carb-diabetic-recipes.blogspot.com
