Would you pull the plug on your love one while in a vegetative state ? Does it really shows compassion for ending someone's suffering. Are there any guidelines on this topic beside religous view ?

I believe its all about the situation and the time. If somebody is laying there knowing he is going to die in 3 days and cannot survive to make it till then and is asking you to help put him out of misery...would you do it? Sure?! You could pull the plug and let the suffering man pass away or you could refuse to help him and just watch him let life go by until he expires. In my opinion i would defidently help a friend in need and i wouldn't make a drastic move but i would be there for my friend until he was ready to go.

I find it difficult to talk about the issue outside of religious view because moral issue becomes religious issue automatically. I have tried to talk about morality outside of religious domain, but it simply reduces matters of feeling. And morality based on feeling is not intellectually sound. I would say that it is ok to plug all artificial supporting systems, but not those which are to be provided naturally.

In many cases these days one does not have to think about doing this, I have been in the position three times now where a hospital has asked me what the people concerned would have wanted, luckily each time I knew what the person had wanted as we had discussed it, I find it unbearable myself to watch someone in this state as i i would hate it myself, I would find it very hard to sir and watch I am only so glad I never had to do that...
