How much time do you spend with your pets?

I have several pets, and I try to spend time with each of them every day. I know people who have "pets" that they don't seem to have time for. They get a dog, put it in a kennel in the back yard, and only spend time with them when they go out to feed or clean the kennel. Do you think it is fair to buy dogs just for hunting, then not spend time with them unless you are training them for hunting or actually hunting? What about people who want to be dog breeders as a hobby? They buy a set of dogs to breed, to raise puppies and sell, but never spend time with the dogs?

I have a dog. Whippet/Black lab mix. She is needy, and wonderful. We spend lots of time with her. It's never enough. But we try. My cat tends to be on her own until she decides not to be. Which is usually after we are all in bed. A switch goes off in her head. Hello! I am here snuggle me! Its endearing actually. Our beta fish Jordan well, not much to say there. He's fed in the morning. He's over a year old so before bed we make sure he's still swimming about. It is sad how some people treat their animals. But most I think do right by them.

I have a dog, she is a Pit Bull mix and her name is Virgo. I spend as much time with her as I can, but when I can't spend time with her she has to be put into a cage as she tends to chew. I couldn't see putting her into a kennel in the backyard and leaving her there to only feed and clean up after her. I think that is cruel and inhumane. Do you have a child and put it in it's room and only let it out to use the bathroom and eat? No, well you shouldn't, but there are psychos out there that actually do that. I treat my dog like I would treat a child (except the whole cage thing, I'd have to scratch that on the child upbringing).

not much actually because my used-to-be pet is now under my parents care. my apartment prohibits pets inside the premise so i have to send my dog when i moved in to my current place. whenever i go home, im the one who feeds the dog and that's all we have time for each other now. unlike before, whenever i go home from school, we sit together on the couch and watch tv or something like that..

Since I'm a student and mostly am out 3/4 of the day, I only get to spend some time with them whenever I leave them in the mornings (you know, give them a good ol pat and say Bye doggies!!) and then play with them in the evenings. My mum is the one who mostly takes care of them. Even though we have a lot of dogs, we really do try to spend as much quality time as we can with them since that is why we bought them in the first place. We also breed dogs too and I can say that breeders certainly love their pets. Even though we have to part with a lot of puppies (i think we parted with more than 50 dogs already!) it still pains us to say goodbye to each and every puppy since they're all so special.

Hello! I spend the whole day with my pet. Now that I am on vacation, I almost never leave home. Which means he is always around me, and vice-versa. Many breeders do take some time with their pets. And the pets they sell are still small, so I think there is no problem, because when they are sold they'll find a new home. However, there are some people who really don't know how raise dogs. I just wish some people were forbidden of doing so. Some dogs are really bad threated. Respectfully.

hi there, i have a black terrier . He just turned 6 this month. And i've been very close to him since he was a baby(oh gosh , the tears), ok. I've allways fed him (i mean like 99.9% of the times) unlike my older brother. He's really obedient and when i take him for a walk he doesn't have to wear a collar. Yeah, a cool dog. I think he sees me as a bro. And i really don't regret taking care of him so much because if i hadn't he would've choke with those big bones someone in the house gave him,and it's happened two times. He's a good guard, too good ,have to say. By the way, i can recognize some of his barking whether he wants to go out, eat or just play. Anyway if you spend a good time with your doggy ,you create a nice relationship.

I agree, Puppy Mills are horrible, and they are unfortunately fairly common in my neck of the woods. As far as the dogs trained for hunting (or herding, etc.) I think for the most part that owners try to build a good rapport with their animals, because this helps the animal and person have a solid working relationship (of course, there are exceptions to every rule.) As for me, I have 5 dogs (3 rescues) and 4 cats (all rescues) that get all the love and attention in the world - and I agree, why would someone have a pet and not pay attention to it? If they want to do that maybe they should just get a stuffed animal.

We have several dogs and cats that have become part of the family. We believe that's where they should be. I have a cat who likes to watch TV, his favourite channel is Animal Planet. It's not fair to the animal to be tied up, or for the person who adopts it not to experience the love of the animal they've brought into the home. If you include the animal in your life it becomes a win win proposition.

Our kitties are our kids. We spoil them rotten. I don't know much about hunting dogs, but I think dogs in general really like attention and praise. So while training and hunting I imagine they get that. Hopefully people who have hunting dogs give their dogs some love too. It's incredibly sad when people adopt a pet, and then grow tired of it, so they completely ignore it. I've even herd of some people "trading in"... getting rid of an older animal to make room for a puppy or kitten. Do they do that when their children become teenagers? Well, some would probably like to..... LOL
