Does the news media tell the truth?

My husband watches a lot of news channels, I am talking about prime time, like Fox news, CNN, etc.
Do you think they tell the truth or do they only tell us what they want us to hear? Is it propaganda or truth?
I often wonder if they tell us everything about the war in Iraq, or even politics. I wonder how much is twisted to suit their own purposes or raise their ratings.
I sometimes watch the news, but I find it either depressing or sickening, especially when they go on and on about the antics of a celebrity like Britney Spears.

I do agree with you, sometimes media does exaggerate on some issues and peep into the pesonal lives of celebrities. How can anyone forget the inappropriate intrusion of media in the private life of Former Princess Diana???
Standard channels does stick to ethics and we can rely on the authenticity of the news they air on channels,howethere ethics point that no media has the right to air on the gory images or news which can trigger communal violence.

I is all a matter of perspective. I am sure they try to deliver the news in be best fashion they deem possible but they are also motivated by ratings which equal earnings. I take it all sort of tongue-in-cheek and cross reference as many views as possible to try to get the best picture possible as to what the real deal is. We only know what is revealed to us, I'm sure much more is never told to us.

i agree that the news channels give us some true news. but as they are controlled by the governments, i dont think they will give true news about certain subjects like Iraq war. till to day we are hearing only false news about it.
