Soo..my son turned one on Jan 1 and all was going so well. He was getting more teeth..walking like a pro...eating "big boy food" then.. it happened. A full, blown out tantrum! I couldn't believe it. He was trying to bite, face turned red, i layed him on the floor and he started tried to pound his head on the floor! yikes! As I tried to be stern and told him "ok you have your tantrum, let mommy know when youre done" ..(trying VERY hard not to laugh) he decided what I said made him more angry and just continued to throw a fit. Up until this point, he has been really even-tempered. It just shocked me, he's so young! Anyone have any ideas on how to "handle" the tantrum phase? I would appreciate any tips..thanks!!

It's sooo hard not to laugh at them at that age. We always told ours to let us know when they were done. It usually stopped it after a minute or two. When they got a little older and could understand "no" a little better, they got a swift pop on the butt. Mine only threw a couple, and they only ever did one each in public. That was enough.

Yeah he just amazes me at how dramatic he can be. My parents have just decided that I am getting what I use to give out. One tantrum in public each! wow, Im hoping my son decides to go that route!! Thanks for the feedback :)

My daughter will be one in 2 days. She has not gotten to the full blown tantrum stage yet. She will just lay down on the floor and cry really hard. She stops breathing for a few seconds, but not long enough for me to worry. I usually distract her with something else and USUALLY it works.

Distracting him with something else use to work....until he decided I wasn't paying enough attention to the fact that he was upset! lol..he hasn't done the stop breathing, but he does sort of strain himself to make his face get all red. He's very dramatic :)

you did exactly right! my nephew has started to throw himself down on the ground and kick and scream. he's only one, but if we ignore him, he tends to pick himself up pretty quick as opposed to giving him the attention he wants. stay strong, don't laugh too hard and just ignore him.

Yeah its funny, I tried ignoring him this morning by walking away..bc mean mommy that I am stopped him from trying to stick his binki in the wall outlet, and after he cried a little, he followed me around occasionally letting out a little yell to remind me that he was upset..but after about a min he was done and playing w/ something else
