High Speed for Dialup???

Hi. I have dialup internet service. I cannot get anything else in my area and it is driving me crazy how slow dialup is. I called around today and found a place that offers high speed for dialup but you still have to use your phone line and it is supposed to be 9 times faster than regular dialup. Does anyone have this service? Is your computer speed for loading pages any faster? I just don't see how it could be faster because you are still dialing through a phone line is why I ask, but it is my only alternative to try right now.

Yes, it is faster. I had DSL for awhile that used my phone line to connect to the internet. For reasons not of my doing, I am now back to dial up, which I am thankful that I can still connect. But sure do miss the connection speed of DSL.

Yes. I am very thankful also that I can at least connect to the internet. Do you have high speed dialup, which is an accelerator for dialup on your computer now? If so, is it faster? I need DSL so bad. I want to get done with my work online faster instead of spending all day waiting for pages to load.

I know what you mean. Netscape has a web accelerator download so I did that yesterday and it still is no faster. I just cannot see where dialup would ver be faster. I think all of us should be able to get DSL at an affordable price by now.

I don't think that I do have an accelerator for dial up. Some days are slower than others though!

I'm in the same situation as you. I cannot get DSL or cable in my area. It really sucks too as it seems everyone else has high speed but me (and you :P). I have heard that satellite is an option for those of us that cannot get any other high speed service, though I don't know if I'd want it as I think it costs more than DSL or cable, so it looks like I am stuck with dial-up until it becomes available in my area.

Same here. You would think by now, they would have it available for everyone or do something to make this crappy dialup faster or something. I don't even think satellite is available here. I have only found one place and it costs $79.99 a month just for DSL only. It does not include channels, phone, etc. That is very high and I won't pay it. They also charge about $300.00 to come and set it up. Outragious!!!!

why you dont try to use a DSL much better than dialup, i have same problem before but i change with DSL much better even my hubby & sister use thier laptops, still i have a good service & we can download easier than dial up, also we can use our phone even our DSL connect to the phoneline.

I would if I could. That is what my discussion mentions above. I can only get dialup service in my are aright now. I hate dialup but it is the only option I have but they offer a enhancer for it but everyone said it isn't any faster. I guess I am stuck with this slow turtle crap for a long time.

When I first got the internet I had to use dial up because that is all they had. I would get in the middle of something and my line would drop off. I would get really irritated. My son looked around and finally found internet through the cable place. I have been really happy since I have internet through that. I don't have that service but I can not see how that could be faster than the regular dial up.

I wish I could get cable here also for the high speed. I need to call those places and see if it is avalable here also. I doubt it. My pages load so slow and I do alot of work online every day. I should probably be done in 8 hours but I am online about 12-16 hours a day trying to do my work. I don't see how high speed dialup is faster either because it still goes through a phone line. I have Netscape and they have a web accelerater. I downloaded that today and my surfing isn't a bit faster. Grrrrrr.

I'm sorry to inform you that dial up connection is really slow connection, it speed starts from 36Kbps to 56Kbps only. Check your modem to know the maximum speed of your connection. You can try to use the WAP service of your mobile phones as an alternative it ranges from 300Kbps to 500Kbps depends on the signal. You can also try the wi-fi but it is quite expensive nowadays. Or upgrade to DSL service to get a faster connection.

Hi. I can't get DSL or any other service in my area right now other than lovely dialup is why I was asking about the high speed for dialup. I need more speed and can't get it. I can get the dialup high speed but everyone says it is not much faster so that won't help me. Thanks.

Oh man! I've been long gone from using dial up. I remember back then using that. I first started with AOL - you think? you think dialup is slow? Oh god back then I had to wait for minutes and hours to pages to load. and going through the times when there was no connection. and when trying to download long files - forget it just to download a 5MB file was like an hour - of course having high speed like what we have now takes less than 5 seconds. I feel your pain and it is shocking that in your area they don't have high speed internet.

I am so frustrated with dialup I could pull my hair out. I had started with AOL also but had dialup with them also because DSL isn't available here. I always got bumped offline with AOL too. They just got high speed 4 miles up the road from me and I got so excited until I called and found out it isn't avaliable for me, of course. I really need it because I do many things online each day to earn from and these pages go so slow, it makes me sleepy. I should be done with my work online in about 8 hours but it takes me 12-16 a day and I am still behind. It really sucks!!!!

I had the "Fast Dialup" as they call it and it was supposed to be 10 times faster. In my opinion it's not any faster. Where I live we can't get cable or phone highspeed so I was stuck getting satallite internet through a company called Xplornet and it is about 100 times fast than dial up LOL You should look into company's that provide wireless or stallite internet.

Well Xplornet Satallite is expensive itd 100 CAD for the slowest speed they have but the wireless packages are awesome the fastest speed is only 60 CAD the wireless didn't have any fees to pa where as with the satallite we had to pay 200 for the equiptment but we didn't care because we have fast internet now LOL They don't have TV or phone on their system so you wouldn't have to worry about that with them.

Same here. Is xplornet expensive? Does it come with anything else like television channels or anything like that? Is there an installation fee? I live in Indiana and I am not sure about other options for me right now. Some people say I should be able to get it through DishNetwork. I am not really interested in tv channels but if it is outragious, I may as well have tv channels with it also. Thanks.

Hi. I haven't checked into the wiifi. I have been told by my local telephone company that there is no kind of service available for me other than dialup right now and they do not know how soon anything else would become available. I guess I am stuck with dialup for now LOL.

when we first got our computer we had gotten dial up and i remember how long it would take to load pages and it would tie up the phoneline etc...etc..., so we finally switched to cable internet and it is soooo sooo soooo much faster and we love it. the high speed dial up connection you are speaking about ive never heard of so i cant really comment on it. my guess is that its not exactly "high speed" its just faster than regular dial up. just my thoughts.

I am ready to move back out of here, LOL. I heard this faster dialup stuff really isn't no faster. I feel like I am growing old waiting for pages to load.

I feel like telling him that we should switch to dial up and then compare but he won't...of course...But so sorry that you have dial up. We had it once a long time ago and switched ver quickly. Good Luck

i have never used dial up personally it has always been wireless or all these funny things but the truth is that you cant always have it fast all the time there are times you get slow connections even on a high speed connection this could be as a result of technical hitches but they never last for so long

Hi. I combed the internet and didn't find anything that is available for the are I live in. There is nothing here for me to tap into the waves to get high speed. They just got DSL a few miles up the road from me. I called and asked about it and they said I will not be able to get high speed here for a long time.

I hated dial up. We now have DSL and I hope I never have to go back to dial up. It is so much faster. Our DSL goes through the phone lines but also has a box that connects to the internet. I just love it. Some nights, like tonight when we get high winds, it is a bit slower but it still is faster than dial up

So do I, but that is all I can get in the area I live in, sadly. I don't think I can stand this dialup much longer. I hate it and it makes me work long hours online because it moves so slow.

The bandwidth on a phone line is wider than you might imagine. Ya just gotta love fiber optic cables. LOL We have to run 4 computers plus the phone pretty hard to max out our bandwidth. Believe me, we have done it. Dial-up was a good service 10 years ago. Now I have DSL and it comes in through my phone line. The advantage is it does not prevent people from calling in. I can be on the phone talking and be on the computer at the same time. I don't know if this can be done with dial-up service or not. It would be worth asking some questions. Ask what are the advantages and disadvantages of their service that they are offering. My house looks like a which-wire-where-scare. The phone line, the desktop, the router, the modem, the 3 wi-fi laptops, the webcams............it will make your head spin.

I have always had dialup because they do not offer high speed where I live. I hate spending all of my time on the computer waiting for pages to load when I could have been done with all of my work hours ago. It drives me crazy and makes me gray headed waiting for things to load.

If you can get the high speed dial up, I wouldsay do it!! It does cost a little more, but your puter will load faster and you won't get booted as often. That's how it used to be, here for me, we could only get dial up and it interfered with the phone. Then it went to high speed and had a seperate line. Now I have cable and it's alot faster! Hope you get something faster soon!!

Hi. This is the same thing but it only makes your dialup faster. I wish it was just DSL or something like that but is still dialup, but it is supposed to be a little faster dialup. I need speed and dialup does not have any. I can't get DSL in my area so I was just going to see if the accelerator for dialup would be faster. I have heard there is nothing faster available for me here yet.

Since you did not say what other internet service if offered to you, I can tell you that with my service (AT&T), it does come through on the phone line, but I can talk on the phone while working at the computer. I also have access to my original dial up (AOL)since I have used it for so long and am so familiar with its workings. I still use AOL as my homepage, so everything is still so familiar that even an old lady can still be happy online. Our cable company (Charter) here in the mountains of No. Carolina, offers the same opportunity. Check with your phone company, your cable company to see what is availale. And yes, it is MUCH faster!!!!

Hi. I don't remember the na,e of this compnay but they are local here. They just offer a high speed for dialup. They don't offer DSL or anything like that. I can't get that in my area here. I had AOL for years and couldn't get high speed here. I could only have dialup service. All I can get is something that makes this lovely dialup faster but alot of people tell me it is no faster at all. I need high speed like DSL. I called my local phone company and can't get high speed or DSL here but they just got it a few miles up the road from me. I am ready to move, LOL. My phone company said there is nothing available for high speed here for me yet. I am stuck with dialup through my phone. GRrrrr.
