mice gone dead

yesterday the strangest thing happened. BOTH my laptop and desktop stopped recognising mice. they both run vista home premium i tried 4 mice in each one, and they failed to install correctly. i have managed to get a microsoft mouse to work by installing the intellipoint software. but i dont understand why microsoft online update cant install a simple usb optical mouse! any ideas?

You can check the settings of your audio driver that you have in your computer. might be possible there is any mis-setting in that area...

That's a little strange. Can you set up your computer to where you can use the keyboard to do the mouse functions? I'm running windows Vista too, and I don't like it at all. I'm seriously considering buying XP and replacing Vista with it. I haven't had any real troubles with my mouse. My husbands mouse quit working and I bought him a new one. I wanted the new one, but it wouldn't work with my computer. The only mouse that will work with my computer are the ones that are the same brand as my computer. Hopefully I'll be able to find one if the need should ever arise.
