What does catnip do? All of my friends who had cats at pets also had cat nip, but I was too afraid to ask them what it was for. So yea, what is it?

Catnip is a mint herd that cats love. It give some cats a sort of high. They will eat it, roll on it. It can make them get very silly. It does not harm the cats. They love it.

Our cats always got catnip as a treat around Christmas time. It makes them hyper and funny to watch.

My cat loves catnip. I heard somewhere that the reason cats like it is that it is an aphrodisiac to them... but I'm not sure thats true. I think its more like weed to them. My cat sees catnip, he runs right over to it and starts gobbling it up frantically, and then he just sits there and stares into space with a blissful look on his face for about an hour!

Catnip does not effect my cat,but I've seen it make some go crazy, playing and running around.I think it is like speed to us,it is speed to them. They do not know what to do with their self. They go wild.

We call it "kitty pot," because our cats always seemed intoxicated, then kinda mellowed out. It's harmless. Actually, catnip tea has kind of a calming effect on people - we used to brew some, then cool it down and put it in a bottle when our kids had colic (we checked with the pediatrician first, who approved it).
