Controversial 911 Call

Below is a link to a video of a polic 911 call that has, aparently, gotten a lot of people fired up. But me, along with many others, found the 911 dispatchers response funny, and we knew it was OBVIOUSLY a joke. People need to leanr that 911 is for EMERGENCIES. If it had been me on the phone with him, I would have laughed and said something like, "no it hasn't come to that yet..." or something. I would not have gotten angry. What about you? *please no fighting and cruel arguing on this discussion.* http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9WiX-Bu5GA&feature=related

I agree with you it was funny, but I imagine to the type of person who calls 911 for dumb stuff it probably wouldn't be. you know in the movies when someone gets hysterical for no reason and someone else slaps them to stop the rant? I'm pretty sure thats what this dispatcher meant to do with his joke. I'm assuming he was trying to make her see the absurdity of calling 911 over an arguement with her 12 yr old. I probably would have laughed too, but I would have said "yes would you please?" LOL

LOL! You're probably right about a person that would call 911 for no reason would find that joke extremely unfunny and offensive! Appaently he got a reaction he didn't think he would. i feel sorry for him! She probably deserves a good slap! lol

I agree that, that may be a more desperate situation. But to me, this woman didn't sound like it had gotten that far.

Madasp I really don't think it's completely absurd for a desperate woman who has an out of control child and the child is being abusive and hitting the parent to want to turn to 911 for help. I happen to know someone here who has a very abusive out of control daughter who beats the shat out of her mother and the child is also about 12 or 13 years old.

Like you I would not have gotten mad either. It was not an emergency call the woman had placed. She should have gotten in contact with child welfare or whatever they are called. I sure hope he doesn't get fired for his comment, I thought it was funny.

Yeah I hope he doesn't get fired either! That would be really unfair, and I would feel really sorry for him! It annoies my when people use 911 for the wrong reasons! Apparently it annoies cops too!

I find it funny too..though I don't live in the US. I know very well that 911 are for emergencies..and that is not an emergency. he should have called his husband or someone who can help her.. maybe, she was so desperate she badly needed a help to control her 12 year old daugter.. I hope the dispatcher keeps his job.

LOL--oh, I'm sorry but I'm along with you that I thought this was funny. But then I have a warped sense of humor anyway. However, I can see why the woman was angry as hell. Quite often when a parent does have a totally out of control child where is a person supposed to turn to for help? There is even one MyLotter here who does in fact have a very abusive out of control daughter and believe me from the discussions she's had about the daughter I'd be calling the police for help too.

I can understand when a child is that abusive and hurtful, it is time to seek extra help. But I do not believe that the woman in this 911 call was having that kind of trouble.

Wow, that was a good catch you found. I don't know how that dispatcher could say that but wow, not a funny joke at that moment. Aingealicia

Yes I found that funny. I will say, though, that we didn't hear the whole call. We don't know the whole story. Obviously she wasn't in physical danger, so she shouldn't have called 911. She should have called the police department directly and maybe seen about getting the child put in a psychiatric facility on a mandator 72 hour hold if she can't do anything with her. Kind of makes you wonder doesn't it.... I mean,,, maybe she should have established rules for her child well before she got big enough to over power her.
