Would You Breast Feed?

Hi I have just answered a discussion question that sparked an idea for a discussion. Say you were having a baby and on a lot of medication and had looked into it and found out that all the books, medical advisors and doctors said that if you breast feed it will harm the baby. Would you breast feed anyway knowing the theory that "breast is best"? My last pregnancy I couldn't breast feed because of my meds and it is the same this time. However last time I faced a lot of discrimination and people saying I should breast feed. Midwives said I should breast feed and I felt they looked down on me. So what do you think is the most important?

You need a copy of Thomas Hale's "Medications and Mother's Milk." It is *the* authority on meds in pregnancy and while nursing, and a lot of the info is not commonly known. My OB said I could take Sudafed and Benadryl in the first two trimesters, but according to Hale, they can cause problems. If Hale's book said it was a risk, I wouldn't nurse. If his book said it was okay, I'd take it to my doc, and I would nurse. Good luck!
