Where do you like to sit on a plane?

Farmlands from the air. - This picture was taken from an airplane on a very clear day. The lands were divided into sections for farms. Some sections were snow-covered which made an interesting pattern.

I always like to sit by the window on a plane ride. I don't like to be squeezed in the middle and I hate the aisle. Either someone is always bumping into you, like the flight attendants with their cart, or someone with a suitcase, or someone wanting out to go to the bathroom. Besides I like looking out the window, even when there is nothing but clouds to see. On my last trip the sky was clear and I got some great shots of the ground. I thought it looked like a quilt.

I prefer sitting on the end, since I won't need to hassle anyone if I need to go to the toilet. The economy seats leave little leg space, especially when the person in front of you has their seat lowered (I find that the person sitting in front of me always does this...always...) and so if I were sitting by the window or in the middle, I'd have to disturb one or two other passengers. I think it is better that way because I don't sleep on planes (unless it is a 15+ hour flight, then I'd probably end up having a nap), so I won't wake anyone up if I need to go to the toilet.

I love sitting right at the back, safely tucked away in the corner. I'm not sure why exactly, but I just feel all cosy there. My boyfriend finds it hilarious how picky I am about where I sit on a plane.

I've always heard that the tail of the plane was the safest place to sit. Thanks for the reply, and welcome to myLot.

Needless to say, sitting by the window is my favorite place. I like to watch outside, the clouds, sky, roads etc. It's exciting to sit by the window. Although it may be troublesome if you have to leave your seat. But most of the time I will just sit there until the plane arrives at the destination.

I seldom have to get up on a plane, but I haven't been on a long flight either. Thanks for the reply.

I'd love to seat in the business class but then, I wouldn't want to fork out lots of money for business class seats. Once I purchased premium economy tickets on a British Airways flight but during check-in at the airport, the seats were not available so the airline upgraded my family to business class. Needless to say, we enjoyed that flight very much because for once, we could lower the backrest of our seats to a flat position and sleep normally, and the food served was also special. Most other times, I fly economy, and I much prefer to sit next to the window. I like to see the view outside when the plane is taking off or coming in to land, and I usually take aerial photographs when the view is spectacular. I like it better when the flight is short. Then the plane will not likely fly that high, and I can get to see the view of the ground or sea below throughout the duration of the flight.

I can't afford to fly anything but coach or economy either! Short flights are less tiring as well as give a better view. Thanks for the reply.

I always ask for a front seat so I don't have someone sitting in front of me. I need to be able to stretch my legs out or I get wicked cramps.

Hello susieq223, I too like window seat, well, maybe, I don't like window seat as much as I dislike aisle or middle seats. Window seat gives an extra opportunity to observe outer side, the flaps, clouds and cities, while landing or ascending, or if cruising height is low and there are no clouds. Aisle may not be a big problem if the person sitting across is a friend but I feel stuck in the middle.

I haven't flown in ages...but when I did I always loved the window seat. In fact the very, very first time I flew at age 16 I had a window seat...I was so thrilled about my first flight and how beautiful it was looking out at a bird's (or plane's) eye view of a sunset I whipped out my camera and took photos

I don't care where I am as long as I have an aisle seat. I like the aisle because it's easier to get up. I don't have to climb all over people to get up to go to the bathroom. When the plane lands I can be one of the first people out because I can just hop out.

I also like the window seat. Not only do I get to look out at the scenery but it gives me a wall to lay my head against when I sleep and I don't bother anyone else.

Well that's my favorite spot as well, I love sitting beside the window to take a good look of the wonderful view from above. I remember within my two airplane experiences, I was at first nervous but anxious at the same time to ride a plane and to sit beside the window. I thought the gods were so good to me that time, as I now long to have another plane ride and sit beside the window for the 3rd time!;)

I always like to sit in a seat by the window. Then I can look out at the wonderful scenery when there is any, like the pyramids of Egypt or the coral reef and tropical islands of the Maldives. It is scenic when a plane travels low and I can see some lovely landscape. Even when the plane goes higher into the white puffy clouds I feel happy being close to the window. If I get in the middle seat or even worse the aisle seat I feel closed in and I don't enjoy the flight as much. The worst seats I have ever seen are on huge planes where there are 2 or 3 seats on each side of the plane and 4 or 5 seats in the middle. I would hate to sit on one of the middle seats. If I can't see out a window if I need to I feel closed in and fed up. Flying from Hong Kong to Perth there were 2 seats on each side of the plane and 3 seats in the middle. I was upset not to get a window seat. Couples had been places in the 2 seats on either side of the plane and I had to sit in a middle aisle seat. I got bumped up in to higher class from Male to London and the difference was amazing. The seat was so comfortable, there was much legroom and service was non stop. It was drinks all the way home. Nowadays each airline has a different policy on selecting seats, some do it on there Internet site so I be aware of that when trying to make sure that I get a window seat.

Yes, window seat is always being my favorite whenever I travel by plane. Looking the islands below gives me the sense of reading the maps. Moreover, it also helps me forget the dizzy I usually felt when flying.

I also like sitting by the window. One time a attendant pouring drink spilled tea on me when I sat next to the aisle! Luckily it wasn't hot. :P

what a coincident that I saw this post. I will be flying back home to my country for the Chinese New Year tomorrow. I always like to sit either on the aisle or by the window, but I prefer to sit either in the very first row of the economy class or by the wing. This is because those rows have the largest leg room.

i like the window seat coz i can look out and i can lean my head on the side and not bump heads with the one sitting next to me. but the problem with sitting beside the window is when you need to go to the lavatory and your seatmates are all asleep.
