LONG or SHORT Discussions?

What do you prefer? Do you ignore long discussions because you don't have the time to read them? Do you only respond to short discussions because they're quicker to read and you can respond faster and to more discussions? Or do you anyway only read the beginning of discussions, be them short or long? Do you find long discussions more interesting, since they have more thought and effort put into them? What do you think is the best length for opening a discussion - a few lines or a few paragraphs??

I don't really look into the length of the discussion. More than anything else what I really consider is the topic itself. I enjoy reading so it doesn't really matter if the discussion posted is long. With regards to the best length for a discussion, I don't think there is any. I think what matters is that the writer was able to convey the message he/she is trying to share.

Hi corilat, It is not short or long discussion that interests me or even others but it is the heading which is more important to ignore or go through the discussion. If the topic heading is interesting, I will respond whatever be the length of the discussion. Good Luck.

Good point. I wondered whether, since myLot is a place where ppl get paid for the amount that they contribute, if therefore some ppl will ignore those discussions that are going to take ages to get to the point and figure out what kind of response is required. But it seems like everyone here is interested in the actual content of the discussion. But then maybe only these kind of people are responding??...

I respond to both long and short discussions. If I find the discussion interesting or think my advice could be helpful I will respond. I have plenty of time to read the longer discussions so I never bypass them, once I see that they are lengthy, if I can contribute in some way, I do.

It depends. But most preferably i like shorter ones. But i hate one liners. I like discussion which are brief and still makes sense. I also do not like where the discussions are very big and its like i can't keep a tab on it.

I hate one liners too. It's just asking to be ignored.

I like longer discussion starters if they are well-written and on an interesting topic. Especially if the topic is somewhat serious, I love when the original poster not just gives their opinion but also gives reasonings for it, and mentions some of the other opinions they have heard on this topic or that have influenced them. I also love longer discussion starters if they are about entertainment of some sort and actually give me enough information to be interested in the topic. For example, if you simply ask "Has anyone seen this tv series?", I'm going to skip it if I haven't seen that series. However, if you actually explain some of the appeal the series has for you (characters, plot, etc) then I'm not only going to reply, but also probably try to watch the series as well. I do sometimes reply to shorter discussions as well, if the topic interests me, but longer ones are the ones I'm more likely to stay on and converse with other posters. :)

A really well-reasoned response! And I especially appreciate it coming from someone who's already posted 6,416 times. I would expect by now you know what you're talking about.:)

Hello corilat, It doesn't matter to me whether it is long or short discussions. Even though I don't have much time to spend here (as I am a working mother), I still take time to read the discussion I intend to respond till the end of it. If you are here to earn extra income, yes, time does matter. But for me, the fun of being here, reading and responding to others is more important than the income itself. I prefer to respond to a discussion about daily life, light topic that don't really need me to think too much before responding. Have a great day!

Not to short... but not to long... Idk... well your discussions... you got to the point... said what you wanted too and it was not to short and it was not too long... As long as you get the point across no matter how long or how short it is...the point is what needs to be said! Now I hope I got my point across???? lol

It depends, if the topic interests me, then I'd go for a response. As long as it makes sense, I go for a post. But if it's a discussion that's only seeks "yes or no" answer, then I don't waste my time posting with it.

Yeah, there are a lot of discussions that are just a few words strung together that don't make any sense, especially from new users. Thanks for responding raijin.

I prefer the discussions of my interests,no matter long or short. And I only reply to the discussions which make me feel really something to say. But sometimes time is limited,I prefer short ones.I suppose that four to six lines is good for a discussion.A few paragraghs are a little bit long for reading.

A few lines to a paragraph is good for me. A couple times I saw some that were the whole page long and I just get cross eyed trying to read it. Now I am talking about the first person to start a discussion. Not the people replying.

I think I prefer the shorter to the long. I also like some of the inbetweens. It just depends on the content and how interested I am in the subject, along with how much time I have to read. I love to post so depending on the content depends on the posts as well. Some discussions are really interesting depending upon your interests while others tend to be fun, simple, and some of the are even boring.
