Does channel surfing a lot on TV harm the TV set

I guess everyone does channel surf on TV - flipping through the channels using the remote. Does this actually harm the TV set? Does it damage the picture tube or reduce the life of the TV in any way. Would love to get your opinion and if possible some electrical / electronic person on Mylot could throw more light on this issue!

Unfortunately I can't give you the answer but I'm looking forward to the responses and hope someone knows since I'm guilty of channel surfing too.
