I'm trying to install the latest free version of AdAware. It's downloaded but when I try to install it I get the message that it's not a Win32 application. Then nothing. I have no idea what it means and no idea why I can no longer get this application. I've been using it for years. I'd sure appreciate any help.

Not really because it should be. For some reason it's downloaded as an exe file which is not right. I've been able to install the old version but can't install the latest version.

Hello MsTickle,Sorry to say I am no guru, but I am Sorry to hear that you are having trouble. I also use this free version of AdAware SE Personal. I haven't had any problems with it but then again I haven't updated it this month. I will check it out and update to see if it does the same with me. It might have had a glitch or something you might have to uninstall and reinstall the Adaware program. I will ask my friend the computer tech about it and when he gets back to me I will respond back. Hope you get it fixed soon.

I just checked mine, I haven't updated it in 40 days it said and wanted me to update it, but I didn't becasuse of this discussion, I wouldn't want this to happen to me right now since I am so unprepared for it. The computer tech hasn't gotten back to me yet, so sorry I can't tell you anything about it except maybe try downloading a different one maybe, they are a few that is free, but I liked the Adaware best and esiest and less confusing for me to use.Well I hope things start looking up soon.

I've had AdAware for ages too and I find it easy to use. I also run Spybot another freebie and they both pick up different entries. I've recommended AdAware to so many others too with great feedback so I'm not ready to give up yet. I'll be trying again.

Yes, I wasn't able to download the latest definitions even though I tried on 2 separate occasions. It seems silly to run the program without the latest definitions on board so I uninstalled it and when I went to re-install I find their is a new version available and the old one will no longer be serviced. I've downloaded the new version but I can't install it.

Oohh! I wish I had onbe of those handy. There are a couple of people I could ask but they are both busy and not really interested in helping.

I wish I knew what to tell you, Ms Tickle, but I'm having so many problems of my own right now . If I didn't know better I'd swear my computer had been hijacked. I'm going to have to do some research on it. Do you participate in any message boards that have help topics? They have a very good one at www.worldstart.com. I go there for help when I come across a problem that I cannot solve.

I seem to create issues whenever I try to do anything with the workings of my pc. I find the instructions take a lot for granted ...like that I know what I'm doing and I understand the jargon. Why they can't advise in a simpler way beats me, like Step 1,2, 3 and so on...lol.

You could try to go and reinstall the win32 I think thats an actual program(not sure but I think that I ve heard somewhere that thats a program and if it is I know a website that you could probably go and get the download for free because they have everything on this website its filehippo.com)I think that if you reinstall that and then restart your computer and then try and reinstall the latest free version of adaware that it would probably intstall right that time if it doesnt then you could try and troubleshoot!

I'm afraid I don't understand things very well. I've uninstalled and am trying to re-install the newer version. There was no troubleshoot function. I signed up for the discussion forum at Lavasoft, the host company for AdAware but it was too complicated for me and wouldn't let me post a discussion so I gave up.

First off - what version of Windows are you running? Do you or did you have a previous version of AdAware installed? Please provide that info and I will try to help you further. - Tink

OK, I'm running XP and Yes, I had AdAware SE installed. I was unable to run updates for it for a month so I thought I would uninstall and re-install. I found that there is now a new version so I would have had to do this sooner or later. Thanks for your time.

Yes to all the above. I'm not sure what it means but I think the .exe part is wrong but I don't know how to fix it.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I'm not really on myLot on the weekends. Just a few more questions to help clarify your problem: I'm assuming you downloaded the AdAware 2007 Free without the TrialPay deal correct? This downloaded from the Cnet (download.com) site? The name of the file you have downloaded is: aaw2007.exe?

Re download the program like others suggested. You may have gotten an incomplete file, an incomplete download or the wrong type of file (one for Mac for example). Just go back and download the .exe again, but check to see that it is for windows (it should be).

I finally got it. I downloaded from a different site and got the whole thing properly. It installed without a hitch and is working brilliantly. Thanks for your input my friend. ;)

I can't tell you about adAware, but i know of AVG antyspyware. I've installed it on my computer and it has blocked a lot of unwanted stuff since them. It is easy to use. Since you cannot install your adware, try to stick with AVG. It is free to test but it will lose some functions after 30 days. Even so, he keeps on doing it's job pretty fine. Try for yourself and see what do you think of it.

I have AVG already and it doesn't cover the same things as AdAware. I also have Spybot and the same applies. Each has slightly different functions, not covered by the others.
