Do you donate Blood? Why or why not?

I do not as much as I should. I'm a bit paranoid of "catching" something while donating although I know this is a remote possibility. But I feel its something as many people as possible need to do. Never know when us or a family member or even a stranger might need our blood to save there life.

There is nothing to worry about donating blood, you would be giving blood and not receiving anything so there is nothing to catch, the needle is sterile and attached to a sealed system to receive the blood. It really is very safe. You are so right when you say that we never know when any of us might be in the need of blood.

Yah, that part I know is sterile (course you are at the mercy of the nurses or whatever there called)but once I was in the little interview room where they poke your finger to check for anemia and I swear I saw blood drops on the arm rest. And it looked like she set my blood id card in it. It may of been a speck of dryed blood but ewwww they need to clean that up that is SOOOOO gross! Thanks for responding.

I have donated blood once and I will never forget that once. Not to say that I wouldn't donate again, I just haven't had the opportunity. With all the medical problems lately, they've taken enough of my blood away from me. The day that I donated blood for the first time was September 11, 2001. I was in the blood mobile when the first plane hit the World Trade Center. The rest of that day is a blur for obvious reasons. I don't believe that I was traumatized by the situation to the point of not being able to donate again, I just haven't done it.

I have only donated blood about 4 times in my life. I am scared of catching something also from those needles. I donated blood 3 times when I used to work for the state. I donated once for myself when I had a major surgery. My husband also donated his blood for me since I did not have enough time to prepare. My husband and I are both O+ so it worked out very well for me.

Hi, I am willing to give my blood if it in serious for just a business wise I do want that I do like to give my blood for saving a life rather just storing in stores. I do not think anything wrong in donating blood that too if the person is healthy and willing.

i want to donate blood more often because i'm type o negative which is the universal donor, so i know it's important for me to give blood. however, i've had two really negative experiences that keep me from going back. one time i completely passed out and they said i was hyperventilating. another time my vein collapsed! i know these are small prices to pay when my blood could be saving someone's life, and everything might be a-okay the next time, i just need to work up the courage to go again.

Well, I would donate but I'm actually afraid of needles. I almost passed out when getting a TB test. And I almost freaked out when getting a megningitis(sp?) shot. And getting an IV for getting my wisdom teeth out was a night mare.

I used to donate blood all the time. I'd go as often as they would let me. It was a good thing to do and the program assurerd me of blood should I or a family member need it. Now, they won't let me donate blood anymore. I found this out a number of years ago. Once you've had cancerof almost any kind, they really don't want your blood. I would encourage my family members to donate though.

I used too. I'm type O negative, so I have that blood type that can go with anyone and anyone can save my life. However, because I have anemia, they could not use my blood. So I had to stop donating.

I would like to give some blood and the last time that I thought about giving blood I was way too young to do so....I once knew someone that went into the hospital to have a baby and something went wrong anyways she lost alot of blood and she had to have some brought in(From where other people have donated it)and it costed alot of money to have that done...so If i got ready to ever donate blood I would want to make sure anyone who got that blood it was going to be given to them because there is no need in other people making money on blood!
