Are You Organized Or Do You Fly By The Seat Of Your Pants?

I'm one of those people who get excited about a new day planner, can't wait to start being organized when I get my first calendar at the beginning of the year, try to be methodical in the way I plan my day, but it just never works. Pretty soon the day planner has notes scribbled every which way with no rhyme or reason, the calendar is still hanging, but has less and less entries and I find methodical pretty boring. There are alot of people though who love organization and thrive on it. Are you one of those people or are you like me and just love to fly by the seat of your pants? Although I admire those with great organizational skills, I just can't seem to find happiness in being like that. My stepmother actually used to label everything, and I do mean everything, the silverware drawer, the spices in the cabinet had to be in alphabetical order, you get the picture and I wonder why I balk at it. LOL.

All this year I have promised myself that I am going to be more organised and have everything done that I want to get done when I want it done! Does that make sense? So far I think I am a quarter of a way to succeeding, I write my list religiously every night for the next day and I am managing to get a quarter of a way down it, so thats a good start. I think I would fly through it if a) I didnt have 4 children who are unpredictable and interrupt me when Im tackling things and b) if I didnt get distracted every ten minutes by the internet! I would love to be completely organised and have everything fall into place, but in my world it just doesnt happen so I guess most of the time im flying by the seat of my pants!

You sound just like me. I mean well, but somehow it just doesn't seem to fall into place. But hey, sometimes flying by the seat of your pants can be an awful lot of fun.

Even though I am pretty much organized and like the house to be clutter free for the most part, it's still lived in. As for planning I'm pretty much the same way as you. Except for travel that is, I like to be in the middle of planning a vacation every moment. That way I always have something to look forward too, especially throughout the winter.

Planning your vacation almost sounds more like a hobby, but I'm glad to know there are others out there like me.

My Star sign is Virgo, and thus I am "Suppose" to have analytical thought. Most of my life I have stayed true to this label for want of a better word..lol You know I always had to organise everything,Childrens school clothes had to be just right.House had to be just right etc.I found over the years though every time I tried to organise something wether it be a party or a simple picnic,my plans would fall by the wayside.I did find though, when I flew by the seat of my pants, being spontaneous, everything would just fall into place. These days I use a mud Map,works sooooooooooo much better for me, everyhting seems to fall into place, and I find myself having much more fun.Guess I have simply learnt to let go of control.I now sit back and enjoy the ride, always buckle my seat belt though! Great disussion. Cheers

I am really glad your life is so much happier. Sometimes not worrying about the small things, just makes life so much simpler, doesn't it. And things really do have a way of falling into place.

I am very systematic and methodical in my approach to organizing my life and everything! Everything has to be planned and written down so there are no margins for error. I hate risk and I like to make sure everything runs smoothly, I know it's not always possible, but forearmed is forewarned so I make sure everything is in order and any deviations planned if necessary and a second plan if it all falls through. I have diaries and I have timetables, I guess that's the way I am, Mr Regular and Mr reliable

There was 6 of us and my stepmother would make all our school lunches a week in advance. Have you ever had a defrosted bologna sandwich. When I am at work I am organized, its just at home.

i too am similar to you. i try to be organized but in the end, it just doesn't come to me. but still compared to flying by the seat, i'd consider myself more veered to the organized side. hehe i like to plan things even if they don't go according to plans. for the future usually. it doesn't really happen but i like it. but i definitely won't say i'm an organized person with great organizational skills.
