Life Is Made Of Porcelain

After listening to one of my all time favourite songs Porcelain by Moby on my Itunes it got me thinking, that our lives are just like porcelain aren't they? It only takes one knock for there to be on a chip taken out, and one bombshell that will smash the porcelain into thousands of pieces Our lives are soooo delicately balanced, we have to appreciate life for today, in the turbulent world we live in where everything is so volatile that at any time all the porcelain, lives in this world could smash at once. One day you could be really happy, upbeat and positive and the next day wham that's it the porcelain is chipped or broken into two pieces or shattered beyond recognition. But we have to fix ourselves back together don't we, stick the bits of broken porcelain back together, sure there are cracks which we try hide to conceal and forget they are there and hopefully no one can see them. Do you feel like your life is porcelain, I know life is precious but sometimes we do take it for granted and expect every day to be the same, then suddenly someone or something comes along like a big sledgehammer And what happens to porcelain then? Very profound I am being today but how do you value life and do you take life for granted?

I just wrote a post of similar interest regarding an incident that happened following the 911 disaster and how the school my children went to had us prepare in the event it would ever happen again. It genuinely woke me up to how precious every day we have is and, yes, how we take it for granted and that we really should live life to the fullest, because as I said in my post the harsh reality of life is that you just never know.

It's horrific events like 911 that really make you think life is just so precious and can be wiped out in seconds, literally.

We are made of much tougher stuff than porcelain. While we may feel shattered, the reality is that we can pull ourselves together and go on. It is amazing how much we can get through, always more than we think we can. At almost 66 years of age I look back and marvel at all the tough times I've weathered in my life. If I'd known before they happened that I'd have to face all that I probably wouldn't have even tried. But I'm here and going through yet another tough time. The difference in how I deal with live now as compared to when I was young is that I didn't know I could handle the tough stuff and now I've been through some really horrible times, so I know I can deal with the one I'm in and the ones I'll face next. One time there was an auto accident in front of my house and a lot of teenagers were involved. It started to rain so I invited them into my house so they could phone their parents or whomever. One youngster was extremely upset. When I sat down and talked to her she was sure her mother and sister would kill her. She was driving her sister's car and she didn't have a license. She knew she'd get a ticket and actually thought she'd go to jail. I asked her if this was the worse thing that had ever happened to her. She said it was. It was obvious that her youth and lack of experience dealing with troubled times led her to believe she couldn't get through the experience. But of course she did. So while she thought she was porcelain, she really was much tougher than she knew.

I think we are meant to take life for granted in a way. I think our lives are supposed to be carefree and happy. It's only those who are seriously ill who appreciate each day as it may be their last. I think that if we live our lives well, being kind to ourselves, others and the environment; If we do what's right instead of whingeing about the state of the world or bickering with this person and that, we build up a resistence to pain and suffering, if you want to use that analogy a hard covering for the porcelain. So that we are insulated and protected by life's hard knocks. We can't stop the hard knocks and the pain of life, but if we do what's right and live well and have the right attitude we can get through it more easily and better take advantage of the wonders that the world and life have to offer.

Hello Darling, I think of it as being a lump of clay..We get banged up but with some pats and caresses we come back..we may still have some changes to the clay due to our ill treatment but become a new stronger better shape.. Every change weather a good one or bad ..blessing or pain..shapes the clay into what you or I have become.. I choose to handle my bangs, dents, gouges with dignity and as much grace as I can muster and I hope to become something of strength, harmony, peace, beauty(maybe only on the inside..hehe) Love to you my Sweets xoxoxoxoxo

I've never heard that song, but I do know there is a song also called Porcelain by The Red Hot Chili Peppers. You are right. Life is delicate. I could die tomorrow in a car crash or one of my family members could be mugged tonight or one of my friends in Iraq might get shot today. The list can go on forever. That is why we should live everyday like it could be our last.
