Are You A Slave To Vanity?

Are you a slave to vanity? Even though you know by the end of the day that those cute shoes are going to be killing your feet, do you wear them anyway? Do you absolutely insist on putting on makeup and doing your hair before leaving your house? Do you wear uncomfortable clothing and then can't wait to get home to get them off? Do you insist on wearing perfume or cologne even though you know its a little strong? I'll be the first to say, YES, guilty as charged, although I think with age I'm not quite as guilty as I used to be. How guilty are you?

Nopers, I am a slave to comfort. Before we retired I did what I had to do to fit in at the workplace, more or less...usually less, but now that we are retired all vanity is to me is a piece of furniture.

(((Roz)))--it is dangerous to enjoy a drink around me--even milk, lol. Last time this almost happened it was a soft drink, unless I'm mistaken.

I always want to look nice, but not at the expense of comfort - well, at least not at the COMPLETE expense of comfort. I won't wear perfume that's too strong, I just think that's gross. But I always, always wear jewelry and I always wear makeup when I go somewhere. Lipstick makes all the difference in the world, and frankly, so does the rest of it. My eyes are hazel, and aren't dark enough to stand on their own, so I need mascara and shadow to enhance them, and my lips are good, cupid's bows, but are naturally pale, so I like to wear lipstick to enhance them too. Blush is a given, have to have that glow. But I think I do it well, and not too much or too gaudy - what's the point of that? I love to look good. Period. And it makes me feel better too, you know - if I look good, it gives me an emotional edge and I'll take any edge I can get, thank you. People I know tend to tell me that I'm always 'dressed up', although I wouldn't consider myself 'dressed up', just dressed nicely. I just wanna look good. I want to be able to not cringe when I catch myself in the mirror. If only I took good photographs!

I feel the same way Nova, that no matter how gingerly I apply the makeup and no matter how well I might dress, I am just not photogenic. I see so many people that are and I wish I was.

Nova, I would have to say that is an absolute yes. I mean look at us after all.

Me too - drive me crazier. I've been working on getting a picture to post here or send to my friends, and I haven't gotten one yet that I like. So K, is true beauty just impossible to capture with a camera? :)

I have given up on my high heels. Now that work is more casual, I find I don't wear many skirts to work, so, I don't bother with heels any more. Now, as far as my hair and makeup go, again, when I'm working they're done. When I'm not working, it's a pony tail and no makeup. I figure the people at the dog park and the grocery store don't care that I don't look my best. So, no, I'm not a slave to vanity anymore, that's for the young girls.

Well I hate to give into it, but its becoming more for the younger set as far as I am concerned also.

When I was in my teens and early 20s my answer would have been a resounding yes but nowadays I really don't care! As long as I am clean and presentable that is all that matters! As for makeup I have none left as Niamh (6) destroyed it all before she got her own stash - she now has more than I have ever owned in my life AND she looks after it all very well! xxx

Yes, at what time I too was the epitome of vanity, but in the last month or two, don't seem to be able to find the energy.

i for sure am not. i'm really particular about shoes. they have to be comfortable for me and not give any blisters. as for hair and make up, grins, i don't bother much. i just comb my hair before going out. i don't really put on much make up when i go out too. just the basics like foundation and eye liner. that too when i'm in the mood. hehhe i do wear perfume though i try not to make it strong as i have body odour. well, to answer your question, grins, nope i'm not a slave for sure. i am more of a practical person and prefer to be comfortable.

I'm really surprised at how many people are not. I thought more people would tell me they were.

I'm not a slave to vanity. My hairs always brushed, I'm always clean, and I nearly always wear mascara(but that's 'cos I got fair hair and it looks like I got no eye lashes otherwise), I nearly always wear trainers, and i rarely wear anything tight or fitted. Comfort first I say!!!

I'm really surprised at how many people that say they aren't. Its actually kind of refreshing.

I think I am a slave to vanity. I won't even go get the mail without mascara! I must have makeup on to leave the house. I did my hair to go to the gym, for Pete's sake! I am a little better with shoes. I like comfortable flattish shoes. I have worn shoes that pinch my toes because they were desperately cute. But do prefer my gymmies or brown boots.

I only exert effort to look my best when I'm going out on a date. Otherwise I don't try hard to look good. It's my way of making my love feel special. LOL
