Is hope a good thing?

Yesterday I was watching a "Monk" episode where an actor imposes as Monk's dead wife and a conversation takes place between him and his assistant Natalie: Monk: hope is the worst. Natalie: No,hope is a good thing! Monk:you're very young. This question has been resurfacing to my mind lately and I wasn't giving it much thought but it hit me yesterday.. I have been battling to finish my higher education for 8 years now and still standing at the first block.. I'm 26, people my age have already established some kind of a life while I'm running the treadmill, should I just give up already? but then again.. this is NOT the life I want for myself. Is hope a good thing? or does it trap you and blind you to other possibilities?

Of course Hope is one of the best things for the mankind. It was one of the pillars of our civilazations growing since centuries. However you should keep in mind that just hoping doesnt help..One should put in his/her efforts to the best and definetely the results will show. Hope holds you from falling...Its your responsible to raise from where the hope holds you.

I haven't been sitting and waiting for things to come.. the thing is, I live in a community where girls stay with their parents until they get married. and my parents don't want me to finish my education.. and I'm not allowed to work as well, I have been trying to do some small projects on my own only to quit uni each time for lack of funds, and start over again once I have some cash on hand. This has been going for 8 yeas! and is going no where.. I'm still trying as we speak.. banks don't give loans unless I have a regular paying job.. but honestly, how long will be doing everything and getting nothing?

Sorry for being late here, I have been busy trying to get a fund from uni. I'm very stressed right now waiting for the result.. but still hoping. I did projects for IT students like C and C++ homeworks. I did some small designs, banners, logos, translated a few pages (not professionally) from English to Arabic and vice versa, formatted researches for students.. and so on. Thank you for support..

Hope is all we have when everything else is gone, so you should always hope that things will change for the better. Hope never blinds you to possibilities only you do that to yourself by trying to live a life, that is not want you really want. 26 is not too old if you are struggling with your higher education maybe you should find out some alternatives to this. To obtain the life you want for yourself you have to be certain that is what you want and go for it, don't let anybody talk you out of it.

Women my age here are mostly married with kids, but I have larger aspirations.. an arranged marriage is not an option (most marriages are arranged here) all I'm trying to do is have a bachelor degree and leave the country armed with that, to start a new productive life.

Obviously, hope is a good thing. When I was sick in the hospital a few years ago, the only that kept me going was the hopes and plans I had for when I got out.

A quote that always sticks in my mind from Christopher Reeve is "once you choose hope, anything is possible" I completely believe that. Hope, like faith has got me through some rough spots. There is another quote, don't remember who siad it, but it goes when the world says give up, hope whispers, try it one more time. Education is so important. If you feel like you are not where you want to be in life, they find the path you want to walk. Age is unimportant. There is no age limit on education. So what if you are 26. I know of two women who went back to school in thier 50's to become nurses. Both have graduated now and working in hospitals. Do what you feel is right for you. We only have one life..why not live it to it's fullest? Good Luck to you.
