Miley Cyrus not wearing a seatbelt...

So I just read an article about how Miley and her father weren't wearing a seatbelt in her new movie. The whole fuss was made about how they should be proactive in trying to change the trend of teens not wearing seatbelts and the number of auto deaths associated with it. My biggest question to the person that wrote the article is why are you letting a tv show or movie raise your kid? You should have enough influence on your own children that first of all they wear their seatbelt and second of all they are not influenced solely by the media or movies or the tv set. Sorry I had to vent. Let me know what you think...

Exactly! Tv shows or movies should not be teaching are kids we should! My children have worn seatbelts or been in a car seat since they were born. I taught them that not a movie. I don't know if it is the law in every state for teens to wear seatbelts it is where I live if you are under 16 you have to wear a seatbelt.

In my state it is law for everyone to wear a seatbelt. My dad had a good way of teaching us. Every time he caught us not wearing one, we owed him 50 cents, and vice versa if we caught him without one. And then when I started driving, the rule was if he caught us without a seatbelt, there went the keys to my car for a week. That worked like a charm. lol

In all likelyness they weren't actually even IN a moving vehicle. It's just a production slip like in Indiana Jones when he pushes the big block out of the temple wall & it bounces ( it was made of foam ). Does that mean all boulders bounce, NO. Someone's looking way to closely in order to point fingers.

I think I seen the thread you are speaking about and I have commented on that myself... I don't understand why people point the bad finger at movies or music.. I feel parents should monitor their child and what they watch... I personally wouldn't have noticed someone not wearing a seatbelt and I doubt my kids would either... but it might of been a valid point, but then again, we are the ones in control here and if we don't want them to see someone not wearing a seatbelt on tv, then I guess we need to block every channel on tv... lol!

You have a good point! I don't keep up with the stars to know about this, but I totally agree with you!

I never even pay attention to whether someone in a movie is wearing their seatbelt or not. My children know the difference between a movie and real-life. They also know that there is no way that "Miley does it (or doesn't)" is an acceptable reason for them to do or not do something.

I know what you are talking about. I watch a little too much T.V., you always see the cops go to check out a lead, the keys are always in the ignition taking off and without there seat belts. The other thing is when they have there man/woman the arresting officer has the last word to the suspect that is seating in the back seat with the window rolled down, like they ever do that in real life.

How did this person even notice there was no seatbelt being worn? I guess I am not observant enough to catch something like that. I think it is a good idea for actors to wear seat belts and whatnot for their safety, can't hurt to reinforce the idea that kids should wear their seat belts, but parents need to raise their kids, not let the TV do it.

I never really pay attention to whether actors in movies or TV are wearing seat belts. Now that you mention it though, it seems they often don't. The media is blamed too much sometimes. The family is responsible for raising and teaching the child. However, it would be nice if the media would help influence and educate children AND adults in a more positive way...less images of smoking, violence, etc. and more showing people doing things like wearing seat belts...it couldn't hurt.

I agree. You should be in control of your kids. It is not up to others to raise your kids. You are responsible for them. As for the movie and that scene, if it is true (I have not seen the movie) it is in poor taste. However, parents should use it as a tool and point out that in real life a seatbelt is a must have. It's for safety and the movie producers must have missed that big detail when filming.

I think that I'm tired of the media blowing ridiculous things out of proportion. This is no exception. Oh no, she didn't wear a seatbelt! Somebody, alert the press! Good gawd, don't people have anything better to focus on? (not you ... ) The people who use this as a benchmark for what their children shouldn't see on television are the same people that scream about horror movies and video games causing violence. A tv clip of a celebrity not wearing a seatbelt is no more responsible for others doing the same than McDonalds is to blame for obesity. People always want to shift the blame to avoid personal responsibility. If a parent doesn't want to actually PARENT their child, then they have to take the blame for anything bad that comes of it .... like their children learning from the wrong examples. Let your tv raise your kid, then complain about the contents? Makes perfect sense. /sarcasm Continue ranting ... it's a worthy excuse to.

I agree with you! THAT is what people choose to pick on her about? Is it that they are looking for something to criticize her on? She doesn't party like early starlets Lindsey and Britney, we have to for the seatbelt thing? I don't think it would have registered with any child that her seatbelt was not on. And Billy Ray Cyrus actually felt like he had to issue an apology. How about we worry about how young girls dress, or how they always feel they need a boyfriend to be worthwhile. I think if there are going to be role models, Miley isn't too bad of one. But never ever should someone on TV be the main influence on a child. It is not impossible for a parent to be the main influence on their child. Whether kids acknowledge it or not, they pay attention to their parents. If they can't get their children to wear seatbelts, than neither can Miley Cyrus. Next thing you know, they will catch her sneezing without covering her mouth.

Are you referring to the 3D movie? I recently took my daughter and her friend to see it. I don't recall seeing Miley in a moving vehicle other than a golf cart. Miley showed off the tour bus (it was not moving). They did show Miley driving a golf cart through the studio lot but I don't think golf carts have seat belts. Did I miss a part of the movie?

I am all for parents molding their children. I believe in that, it is our primary responsibility. But do you remember when we were younger? How we would believe everybody else but our parents? Miley Cirus is idolized by the young generation. At her concerts, I would watch amazed at how much these kids love Miley. And believe me, they would come back to us and tell us, "well Miley wasn't using one". It's good if they're always with the parents. What about times when they're with their friends, then they can assert what Miley has taught them, and that is, not to use a seatbelt. These kids will believe everything that Miley says and does. I agree that they could have been proactive and used that opportunity to put her influence to good use. It won't hurt her, but it might cause troube to the kids who decided to follow her example.
