Does your parents to inlfuence your decisions on whom to marry

I know there are many people from many countries on this site, and some cultures practice arranged marriages, but in the west we do not.
1- Do you or did you allow your parents to influence your decisions on whom to date or marry,
2- Have you ever found that you were not particularly attracted to someone but your parents encouraged you to date that person so you did?
3- Have you ever brought a date home that you were crazy about and your parents didn't like him or her so you stopped dating because of it?
4 - Did you marry somebody your parents didn't approve of,
5- did you marry somebody you didn't love because your parents wanted you too?
please tell me your story

I've never really let anyone tell me who to date or marry. I've had alot of b/f's that my Mom didn't like and my Dad never met any of my b/f's or my first husband. He did meet my Hubby now though when they came for a visit back in April of this year.
My Mom tried to tell me that I didn't want to get married at 16 but I insisted and she finally signed for me to go ahead and get married. It was a nightmare, he was abusive and almost killed me. Luckly, it's long over with and I have a good Hubby now. My Mom didn't like him much at first either but now she does and they get along alot better.

well I have to say though your mom was right about that abusive creep, parents are not always wrong,
I am glad you are happy now with a good hubby.

1.My parents did not influence who i dated or who i ended up marrying.
2.My parents never encouraged me to date anyone actually LOL
3.No, once i brought home this date that i wish i hadn't...my parents were being nice to him for me, but i later found out they didn't like him either LOL
4.My parents totally approved of my now hubby, and even if they hadn't, i would've still married him, because i love him, and im the one who has to live with him, not them.
5.Same answer as #4, and my parents would not have forced me to marry anyone, even less someone i didn't love!!

When I first announced I was getting married my parents weren't thrilled. I think it was more the age. I was almost 19. But, they were just happy I wasn't marrying my previous boyfriend. When i told my mom I was getting married she said she thinks I'm young but I have her blessing. If I had asked for permission on my last boyfriend she would have said no.
