owning your own home

I really love owning my own home but it does get expensive. My toilet just busted and flooded my whole house had water out in the drive way {i was not home at the time} So i had to take all the furniture out and rip out all the carpet. This is the third time my bedroom got flooded. Is there anyone out there who might suggest flooring decor that wont get ruined in another flood. And is easy on the pocket. Right now i have throw rugs all over my bedroom. I thought about painting the floor and keeping the throw rugs until i can afford to tile it.

owning a home is such a love hate thing. i love that i can do what i want but i hate that i have to pay for it. my sink was clogged the other day and now i have to replace pipes under it. good thing my brother in law is a handy man because i would be spending a fortune if not. i also have a great job at a maintenance place that helps me out a lot. the house we bought is a fixer upper but for what we paid i can't complain.

I also own my own home (which is an apartment) as I've paid up my mortgage already, and yes, once it's yours any problems are also yours to fix. A few weeks ago, I just changed some of my internal piping due to water leakage. That cost me a few humdred bucks. This is the sixth time I am dealing with water leakage in the past 14 years. Well, for your home, you'd better get the toilet properly fixed to arrest the flooding, because all the damage to your carpets and furniture can cost you a bundle. It is better to spend money on the toilet to prevent further leaks than on your whole house. Were the previous instances of flooding due to this same toilet also?

Why did your toilet burst? If it is due to bursting pipes or something similar I'd suggest you think about turning it in to your homeowners insurance. If that isn't an option try the self adhesive vinyl tiles. They are inexpensive and most of them look really nice.

owning a home of my choice(though not one of dreams) has always gained paramount importance in the scheme of things for me. But alas! I am yet to realise my goal. Hope things would turn congenial soon.

i agree with u, to buy a house myself is my mid-long term target. my own house gives me security and achievement. i'm shocked your house has suffered flood so many times. i'm afraid i can't give u some constructive suggestions on flooring decor as i haven't been that area. while i sincely wish that one day u can own a new wild and beautifull house and never have to worry about flood. good luck!

You are most definitely right about it being expensive to own a home and keep up with all the maintenance and repairs of a home. I had a leaky toilet valve upstairs that caused water to come down through my kitchen ceiling. Had to have the toilet fixed as well as the drywall in the kitchen ceiling. I would consult with a plumber about your plumbing situation as well as a floor specialist who can help you choose the right type of flooring. You might have the banned piping in your home which may need to be repiped.

Is your bathroom floor lowered than the rest of the house? Another remedy is to construct some sort of barrier (like 2-3 inches high from the base) outside your bathroom so that over-flowing may be contained within your bathroom. A good drainage piping system in your bathroom will also help.

OH wow, what a mess! I couldn't imagine coming home to that! I hope you get things cleared up and cleaned up soon. What king of floor do you have wooden or a cement foundation?

Well I hope to answer you, is your floor currently wood, or concrete? If it is wood, then you really need to replace the wood, before it begins to rot away, from water damage. If it is concrete, then you can seal it with waterproof sealer to protect floor from any more floods. I would then go to a Habitat builder supply outlet (if there is one in your area) you can get get supplies much cheaper there, then Lowe's. Sometimes you can get help from a contractor, plummer to show you how to fix, or they may donate time to come help you repair damages. I use my habitat builder outlet supply store often for paint, and carpet. I hope I helped you.
