This is one of the judges that have sharp tongue and direct point when he's talking to the contestant. Some might get hurt by hes telling. I never met or see anyone so honest like this before. He has comment for Gideon: "I think you're brilliant, but I can't stand your smile. You reminded me of Chip and Dale" and i suddently notice his teeth. Poor Gideon but Simon make sense too. I admit that sometimes I watch American Idol because of his brutal truth of speaking only. He is one of the causes that makes this reality show have high rates. You Go Simon!

I believe that Simon Cowell's way of speaking the brutal truth is only because it makes him stand out. If you were one of the Judges would you be the same way I think not as it is just his thing. That being said I do believe that people should be told the truth, but in a way that is not a personal attack, I never watch the program because of this, But if this person did have terrible teeth and it was obvious to every one why, hasn't some one told him be for this? He probably thought to him self that because no one has said any thing about the teeth that they are not all that bad.I personally would prefer to hear that if there was something wrong with my appearance and I would be able to do something about it I would prefer if some one took me aside and said I see this and I think you might look into getting help with what ever it was.I have actually had this happen to me and I believe I am a much better person for it. The problem I had was not physical but rather a passive personality that literally drove people to hate me. I now am assertive and not aggressive and my whole world has changed, Excellent discussion

Yes, i will not so "like him" when i am the judge. hahahah i will like Paula Abdul when judging. Well, Simon got to do , when he got to do. Yes, you are right. I think better if the contestant performing at his neighborhood and asking about their honest opinion about the performance, appearance, and everything before they enter the American Idol and face Simon. Excellent respond! you got my rate :D

If you notice, Simon is usually the one with negative comments, Paula is usually the one that has something good to say (whether or not the performance was actually good), and Randy usually swings either way.

Simon has a 'character image' to uphold. Much of his comments are to stay in character I'm sure, but on the other hand, many of his comments are obviously hurtful to the contestants. His comments recently to Chakezie about the "hideous suit" that Chakezie was wearing was totally unnecessary in my opinion. I feel that to offer constructive criticism, no matter how brutal, of the contestant's performance is fine; but to criticise their clothing and personal appearance is uncalled for!

Chikezie did great yesterday but I must agree with Simon the suit from last week doesn't look good. :)

I love how truthful Simon is, I think it is funny how he isn't scared to tell the truth. Sometimes I do disagree with his comments but I would never "boo" him like the audience does each time he opens his mouth.. "I dont mean to be rude but....." LOL I love his accent also.

I like how Simon Cowell judges on American Idol. Just recently he said to one of the contestants you sounded like a harmonica or something like that. Simon will say what he thinks and feel about the contestant. Others complain that he noticed everthing from appearance to clothes,. But I think the moment someone who decided to join AI should prepare being criticize not only the way they sing but their overall personality as well.

Honesty can be brutal, but so can showbusiness. If you're going to work in the music industry, you have to be able to handle criticism because someone is not going to like you, no matter what. Some of these people really need to hear the things that Simon has to say.

i love watching simon cowell go brutal on bad performances LOL, in my opinion, without him the show would not be complete, he is an essential part of the show..if the judges were just like randy or paula then half the fun would be out of the show..

Simon Cowell can really be brutal... but he has some good moments that for me are unforgettable... like when he said yes to the cowboy who never had any formal training in singing...or when he stood up and clapped for the one who he called a Koala during the finals of AI 6... He can be brutal... but what he is saying is the truth...a and most of the time... the truth hurts... and i do agree that his personality and comments are the one that attract a lot of viewers to watch the show...

Well, he is just giving his opinion regarding the performance. You'll notice that if he likes it, he'll say it and if not then be prepared for a beat down but still it's just an opinion. :)
