Get paid to be on the internet?

I heard of programs that supposedly pay you to just be on the internet for x number of hours doing stuff, what are these sites and has anyone actually received money from them?

I have tried a few programs like that a long time ago and I forget then names of them now. Sorry about that, but anyway, they were a waste of my time and I never earned or got paid a dime with it.
