How do you call your parents? Mom - dad? Mommy, daddy? mama, papa? Or by their name, for example Julie, Andrew, or else? In my country, Indonesia, children should respect their parents and should call their mother as "ibu" for mama/mom and "ayah" for papa/dad. In my family, i prefer to call my parents, mama and papa. How about you?

Here in the Philippines, it is not uncommon for people to call their parents, mommy and daddy because of foreign influences like American. We were also colonized by the Spanish for over 300 years so some people, may call their parents, mama and papa with the second syllables stressed out. Of course, the mama and papa addresses to parents with the stress on the first syllables are also commonly used. But if you ask me what the native Tagalog terms for parents are: for dads, it's 'Tatay' and for moms, it's 'Nanay'. That's how I also address my own parents. But with my parents in-laws, I call them mama and papa (with stress on the first syllable) because that's how my husband call them.

In my country, Philippines, we used to have the tagalog version of mom & dad, it's "nanay or nay" (mom) & "tatay or tay" (dad). Some usually use mama & papa or mommy & daddy.

We have different names for parents here in the Philippines. We call our mother "nanay" and our father "tatay". From those words came other names for mothers such as "inay", "inang" or "nanang" and for fathers such as "itay", "itang" or "tatang". It is also common to hear people calling their parents mommy/daddy, mom/dad, mama/papa or ma/pa. For me, I call my father "tatay" and daddy. Sometimes I call him "Dadye" when I'm asking a favor from him. I call my mother "nanay" and mommy or "Momye" when I want to be sweet to her. .

I call my parents - mommy and daddy, or mom and dad. But here in the Philippines, parents are called nanay or inay for mothers, and tatay and itay for fathers.

I call them Mama and Papa. When I talk about them in discussions or with someone I call them mom and dad....There are times when I look for them when my other bros and sisters are around I ask where is ama (stands for father) and Ina (stands for mother). My husband calls his parents Nanay (Mother) and Tatay (Father)..Our kids call us mama and papa as well. I live in the Philippines and here we also have great respect to our parents and the elders.

I have always called my parents mom and dad. I have also called my mom by her first name. LOL Not out of disrespect, but because we were in a store and had separated and when I got back towards her I called out to my mom to get her attention. As that didn't work, I called her by her name. It worked like a charm! LOL She turned around and we both had a good laugh. LOL I've recently also started calling my mom, mommy, when I haven't spoken or seen her in a while, but I have to be in a silly mood to do it. I am a grown woman after all! LOL

I've always called my parents mom and dad. It's not really me-like to say "mommy." But sometimes when I'm being silly I call my mom mama or maw-maw or something. xD

i called my parents mommy and daddy, of course because of the western influences. but now, i let our son call us "tatay" for me as his father and "nanay" for my wife as his mother. it sounded more sweeter for us, than the western counterpart.
