Bonny Prince Harry

I read with interest yesterday the story about the leak of Prince Harry's deployment in Afghanistan. I think that is so admirable of him. His family must be tremendously proud of his accomplishments. Then, I hear today that he had to be pulled out of Afghanistan due to the leak, which might compromise the safety of the young prince and his comrades. I think he was doing a good job there, and was just wondering how he would feel about this turn of events. I know that he originally wanted to see action in Iraq, but was prevented because the risk was too high. Do you think the media can sometimes be overzealous in reporting some things they should not? I do.

Oh of course, the media has no boundaries when it comes to reporting, they don't care who it hurts, as long as they got their story....

I know you are right, carmelanirel, but, in this case they have used the poorest of judgment. I don't understand how they can be so irresponsible.

I think Prince harry and of course Prince William should be a perfect example of everybody in the world. Even they from a big kingdom family, they still have a care with an ordinary people and they really concern about real world life kind. We should follow their kindness.

Yes, goldic, and I wouldn't doubt that it is due inlarge part to the upbringing of their beautiful mother, Princess Diana.

There were about four pages in our paper dedicated to Harry! So yes, definitely over zealous and yes this can be seen as compromising his position. Regardless of his royalty he still chooses to fight and put himself in harms way, where he could use his royalty as a get out card but he doesn't. I really admire him and I know this beloved mum Diana will be looking down on him with great admiration. He truly is a remarkable, tenacious young man who has no airs or graces and wants to be treated like any other soldier. The thought of him getting caught or killed by enemy forces doesn't bear thinking about, he still has to be protected because I suspect their is a big tag on his head!

I wholeheartedly agree with you, wolfie! And that very fact makes his sacrifice so much greater. I'm really miffed with the press and their inconsiderate behavior. They should never place anyone's life at risk just to get a story. Princess Diana would have been so pleased with her son.

yes, allowing the media to talk about prince harry alerted the taliban to the fact that an air to the western throne was there along side of them.

Oh I definitely think the media is overzealous in reporting things! They are constantly saying, "But the public has a right to know this or that!" Bull. When it puts someone in danger to be reporting things like that, they need to keep their mouths shut and turn off the cameras.

people just don't care what could happen to another, especially journalists, i am not saying all journalists are like this, i know a few that are nice, but they have to do "what the people want" and well i guess it tends to get others either in trouble or killed, I'd be proud to know that my son wanted to serve his country no matter what he is. Anyways the prince is probably poed because well he was taken out of the place he wanted to be, and felt he needed to be because he would have been a i guess liability to himself and comrads, did the papers say anything about EXACTLY which troop he was in? i know even if it is general people would still go looking for him.

There has been much more on this published since I posted this discussion, Shawchert, but, as I understand it, he is now back home.

I agree that we sometimes learn more than is good for us or for those involved because of the media. On the other hand freedom of the press is precious and useful. I wish we could find a happy medium.

I've finally caught up to your discussion Kercelia. You've read mine already. I did do a search and came up with just the older news items and not the one where he was already on his way home. Then, when I posted mine I saw there were a coup[le of similar (not the same) as well. I think the media were beyond "over zealous" I think they wee completely irresponsible. One of my responders suggested they were "given the nod"...what do you think? Could this be possible?

Very overzealous! The British press though to be fair did know (as did some foreign press) that Harry was there and agreed to keep it quiet so as not to put him or any of his fellow soldiers under even more danger then some blabbermouth has to go and leak it! I think the press were going to remove the gag agreement when Harry and his fellow soldiers were back home and it was safe to do so! xxx

Prince Harry in Afghanistan - Prince Harry's tour in Afghanistan prematurely halted.
I find the fact that he wanted to serve on the front line to be admirable, jhl. I'm thinking he would have finished his tour in Afghanistan had the news not been leaked.
