Do you wonder how few users manage to get numerous responses for discussions?

Do you ever wonder this? I have seen few users who by default get loads of responses for the discussions they start here. i really do not know how. it may be the subjects are interesting. But many times i have found out that few of the discussions of other members are no less interesting and still they mange to get max 10 responses. What can be the reason for this? Do you think they are very very popular here? or their name just brings many responses. share your view.

Well, i think these are the reasons why some members get tons of responses to their discussions... 1. They have a regular set of friends who would always respond to whatever discussion they start... 2. They start discussions that almost all people from all walks of life can relate to... 3. They use titles that are interesting... 4. They always leave a comment to every response... 5. They start discussions that are witty, funny, and interesting... 6. It also helps when the number of post after the name is quite high...

Well, there is nothing wrong with scratching each other's back... i believe this is site that foster cooperation between people from diffferent walks of life... one is not rated solely for quality discussions... but how one can react to even the silliest ones...

Hello dear subha. It is a very interesting question to be raised. Well, I think that it could be a few reasons like: 1. the discussion itself is interesting to arrtact mylotters to participate in like this one of yours. 2. the person who starts this discussion has lots of friends here who are active instead of inactive ones. 3. the information offered in the discussion could be related to many people who seem to have experienced it and would be very happy to respond to for a try. 4. Also it is very important for one to be sincere and friendly to others, who have already responded to his or her discussions, as can be seen from each of the responses he or she makes some comments to the responses to his or her discussions. 5. the person himself is supposed to be an active mylotter as to interact with his friends' discussions for friendship and such. 6. one who always responds to responses to his discussions is actually helping his own discussions to have more and more responses instead because once he does so, more responses will pour in because of its more chances to be exposed to the users here and so on. In general, there are too many reasons for that. I have no idea what conclusions you have made based on your own mylotting experience. Anyway I think that you are a very successful mylotter here as can be seen from many of your discussions with at least ten responses. Happy posting, my dear friend.

Hi subha12, as far as I have observed, there are several reason, for certain users to get numerous responses for their discussions. First of all, their discussions must be common and interesting, and could be answered by the responders easily. Friends do play an important part. Number of responses received is normally proportional to the number of friends of the host of the topic. The personality of the host counts as well. Normally I like to response to those who are enthusiastic and sincere and have common interest. I think popularity might not be the main factor to get numerous responses, as I do find this happens in cases where they do not receive as many responses as their other discussions with high scores. Though I am not popular, hehe I do come across my number of responses does vary greatly from one discussion to another lol.

I am not sure how that is possible but I think some people are just naturally good writers and the way they use words, draw people towards them...

I've noticed some members who get over 100 responses and I'm lucky to get 25 and I have over 200 friends! I don't think it has anything to do with the discussion and has everything to do with friends. No, they usually aren't very popular with the majority of mylot members so I don't know what it is.

Well I think some questions are just 'easier' to answer and do not really take alot of thought to answer and that is what many lotters' lean toward but i do not think their is not those who do want quality discussions, i do.

I've often wondered this myself, Subha. I've been told by many friends that my discussions are interesting, but I don't get overly large numbers of responses... just the same people most of the time. So, how do some people do it? I take care not to start too many discussions at any given time, and I put thought and research into my discussions, not to mention time, but still they don't often go over the twenty responses mark. If you find out the secret, please let me know! :) Brightest Blessings.

When I answer discussions I don't choose which once to answer so as not to waste time. There are other good topics which I know have not been responded to by anybody. It's not because someone is popular that's why they get responses...maybe for one their discussion are very interesting..another is maybe they do what i do so even though the discussion is not that good it gets responses as well.

I think there are various reasons why people get higher response rates than others but it's impossible to actually pinpoint the main reasons. If you post in categories such as people, life and relationships you will automatically get more noticed as these categories have really high numbers of members with the shared interests. Also I have noticed that your discussion goes to the top of the list in that category the more the discussion is current. E.g. you might have a really old discussion with no responses for a few months, if someone suddenly comes across it and responds to it, it goes to the top of the list in that category again and gets more noticed. I noticed that I can write comments in responses to responses people have written on my discussion and if I space out the time in which I am commenting my discussion goes to the top of the list again. I don't know if this will actually work for everyone but it seems to be working on some of my more recent discussions. Obviously those here that have 100s and 100s of friends are more likely to get more responses as people do tend to check the discussions started by their friends before others generally. Personally I try to reply to discussions that actually interest me rather than blindly replying to every one of my friend's discussions as I just don't have the time or inclination to do that :)

SOoooooo.. sorry friend .. for the past few days i have not concentrated in responding to my friends topic.. Thanks for bearing the ugly trend of mine.. As regards this, i think some days back i had started a topic similar to this, as it wondered me too.. All the responses received were of the nature that deals with reasons, like simple posts, witty topics, interesting ones, number of friends ..and so on.. But the one response that stands out, which i received from one comrade bestre, points out that the, the time when you start the discussion also counts.. I give below the link, of my discussion in which she (bestre) commented.. i you have time just go through it.. http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1540161.aspx?p=3 Take care.

You also got a good number of responses, how did you do it? For me, I don't know, most of my discussions don't hit 15 and above. How did you attract 30 responses including mine? You must have known it by now. Good job Subha! Spread the attraction!

Forgive me if I'm being just very dim, or a total Newbie here but what difference does it make if someone gets a lot of responses or not? seriously, is there some special reason why say 20 responses would be preferable to say 1 or 2 very relevant, well thought out ones? I would think an easy way to get a lot of responses is to pick a subject that would stir people up a bit so they would respond, like "why are all Americans so ignorant of geography" or some other antagonistic generalisation that people would just have to make a response to - But I dont dare to try it out! At the moment I just wander through the site responding wherever the fancy takes me, so I doubt I'd even recognise any popular names as yet.

Hi Jim... you're a fellow Brit, I see. Welcome to Mylot. I'm sure you will make lots of friends here, and grow to love the site. There's a short, sweet answer to why everybody worries about their responses, and that is that it affects their earnings. lol. Each response gives them extra earnings, so you see, it's not quite as odd a question as you might think. :) Brightest Blessings.

Basically, Mylot pays you to visit the site on day to day basis. I know they're a little evasive when it comes to telling you just what you earn for which action but from what I've gathered over the past fifteen months, they pay your for participation, that is your interraction with other users, daily. This interraction, includes starting quality discussions to which you might receive a lot of responses, bearing in mind that you earn for each response you get, and if you keep the thread going as a discussion by going back, and giving your views on the responses, + rating your responses, and perhaps posting pictures with each discussion posted, and randomly throughout. You will also earn by posting responses or comments to current discussions, which you can find in any of the green links on the left of the page, and by referring friends! Your referral URL is also on the left of the page, near the bottom. If you can find a number of referrals who stay active on the site, you earn "passive" income for their postings. Also, it's quite a good idea to add friends to your list, when you find somebody who posts discussions which interest you. Then, they support your discussions whilst you support theirs. I am going to send you a friends request, which I hope you'll accept, so that if you have any questions along the way, you can message me on-site and I'll try to help you whilst you get used to the workings. A little tip... make your discussions of interest to people worldwide, and you'll probably get more response. If you confine them too much to a specific location then it's difficult to get going. I've probably forgotten something, but I don't want to confuse you too much. Please feel free to accept my friends request and message me with any further questions. I hope I have been of some help to you. Good luck, and Brightest Blessings.

thanks for your friendly response. So then, is it more remunerative to start discussions or to respond to discussions? Sorry if this is obvious, I dont find the mylot site very informative on these things. I can understand them not wanting to encourage people to come here a milk the site but at the same time it does seem that too much has to be gleaned by trial and error.

i ask that question everyday.. sometimes i see topics that have like 90 responses or so and check the topic but it doesnt seem that interesting as other so i dont really know why... i posted 2 discussions already without any responses which is pretty sad because one of them was asking for an advise.. ah well i think is better to respond to other discussion than write your own discussion...

i think its because not only their discussions are interesting but its very general that almost all people can relate with it because they encounter the same thing too in their everyday life. also, their discussions are easy to answer because it is very objective, usually with what and how, in contrast with subjective discussions which forces you to think why. and then, most of those discussions are easy to read, even if its long, they would put spaces in between paragraphs and they would write it in a way that everybody would be entertained. ^__^ having a lot of friends in the list also helps in getting lots of responses. ^__^

I really think it depends on the discussion.. I mean, I've gotten a number of responses on some discussions versus one or two on another post. Plus I think it depends on what type of crowd in on mylot at a certain time..

Ooh ooh! Lets use myself as an example! "How do few users manage to get numerous responses for discussions?" How it happens - Talk about things people can relate to - Make the discussion simple - Make your opening remark short and simple, yet easy to respond to - Talk about things that garner the most interest (life, mylot.com, cats, dogs, chocolate, pizza) - Talk about politics in general and simple terms - Say something that can generate disagreement - Respond to other peoples discussions with a good effort to get curious members back to your profile/discussions How it doesn't happen - Talk about science - Talk about religion - Talk about politics (way more indepth) - Talk about philosophy - Make your discussion complex or advanced - Make your opening discussion remark lengthy - Talk about something esoteric

I have no idea. I tend to see a lot of the same users popping up when I refresh the discussions tab, so I respond to them. I have a few discussions with only a couple responses and one with a whole bunch.

Hi subha12, I think you are little frustrated searching for topics to be posted. This usually happens for any person who crosses at least 1000 postings - they get exhausted with subjects. You have answered to your own discussion - it may be the subject that is interesting.Interest on a subject also differes from person to person.A discussion topic which is not interesting to us may interest the other. so, don't look in to responses others are getting - concentrate only on topics to be posted.I think any good discussion will get good response. Good Luck.

The users who get the most have a lot of friends who can and will respond to their discussions. The discussions themselves are the ones everybody can have an opinion on like this one :)
