Referrals, Traffic Exchanges, Splash Pages Oh My ---

A common question I've seen here on myLot is 'how do you get referrals?'... Of course those members who are just here for 'fun' won't be interested in this but for those who are looking to earn either extra money or even a nice income referrals are important. I for one am NOT a salesman and am horrible at selling even the best of 'products' or 'opportunities' but I have had great luck using traffic exchange sites. I know a lot of people don't care for them and haven't seen much success but there are a number of things important to know when using traffic exchange sites. If you don't know what a traffic exchange site is, the simple explination is you visit other member's sites and they visit (or view) your site(s). My discussion today is 'splash pages' - splash pages if your not familure are simple promotion pages that load FAST... With traffic exchanges this is very important - remember other people are most likely attempting to earn credits for their site to be seen so are not going to hang around for a long time before moving on to the next page. Most traffic exchange sites (manual ones is all I use) will have a timer that runs between 10 seconds to 30 seconds. Spash pages load fast, get the viewers attention, and produce results for YOU. Many of the sites such as different traffic exchange sites, paid to click programs, and others are offering pre-made splash pages for you to use for promoting - if your promoting or would like to on traffic exchange sites I highly recommend you use those when available as a referral page. At this point myLot doesn't offer spash pages (unless I've missed it) but I've made one for myself to use. For those who like to get discussions deleted for no reason, this IS a referral page but it's for myLot and anyone responding to this discussion is ALREADY a member so obviously I am not looking for referrals - this is only an example to show others what I am talking about. http://www.byfaithonly.com/myLotSplash.html Ok, for discussion purposes - Do you use traffic exchange sites to promote? Are you using splash pages to promote? Have you ever heard of 'splash pages'? Could you care less about any of this? (please keep your response nice if your only answering the last question)

LOL - good thing I took the 30 seconds to read your whole response the first 15 had me a bit upset :) I'm sorry if I wasn't clear enough but am glad LauraElrod cleared it up. LauraElrod - have you promoted mylot on traffic exchanges? I hadn't bothered much before I put this splash page together because I felt the myLot pages loaded too slow to make it worth my time. I have however gotten lots of referrals for other programs I work with through them over the years.

Wow, a lot of info there faith, thanks..I have a splash page, but not for mylot, I need one for here..:) This is a very good discussion, and if only I had seen one like this months ago, I would not have made the many mistakes I have made and I would understand what I was getting into..:)

LOL - sometimes experience is the best way but it is nice at times to get the information before you spend years trying hundreds of things. Oh opps that's what I've done. Most of what I've done and do is trial and error - if one thing doesn't work I'll try something else.

Yes I have heard of splash pages and they do work especially like you said on traffic exchanges. And I do believe that the traffic exchanges do help to get referrals for your businesses. I think the splash pages are great things too, cause then you don't have to read some of the very long pages of stuff that some of these internet businesses have and if you are at all interested, you can sign up on the splash page and get the info if you want to do that. So the splash pages do work very nicely and I do use them a lot.

I agree totally - I myself have seen hundreds of pages that I about fall asleep reading before I get the real story. A good flash page will catch the reader's attention, give them the most important information, and give them a call to action - sign up :)

LOL - I was tempted to also put "If your not going to be active don't bother signing up" but didn't think that would encourage too many to join :) the other pet peeve I have about referrals. Do you have a web site where you can upload a web page? It wouldn't take me but a few minutes to make a page for you with your information rather than mine. I did another with some of the traffic exchange sites on it that I think is 'cute' but can't post the link here.

LOL - guess your not using that splash page much if you don't even know where it is... To make your own splash page you really need a web site where you can make your own web pages - I happen to have 2, byfaithonly.com and natureinspiredhandcrafts.com (note, I also have 2 domains) there are a lot of places you can get free websites but it's been so long since I've used them I'm really out of touch on which ones are good and which one's not. Someone on myLot may be able to help with that... I have done web pages for other people in the past and placed them on my own site but that's gotten really confusing as the last lady I did it for wanted changes done to her page almost daily - I finally set up a site for her at geocities and gave her instructions on how to do it herself... I felt bad but was doing it for free and felt I was being taken advantage of.

Oh you are welcome - I was thinking about it and the easiest way to explain is myLot and myLot discussions. myLot is the system (traffic exchange) and discussions (splash pages) are how we earn or communicate our thoughts and ideas.

To be honest, I don't know how and with what company I can do Splash Pages. I don't know where to start. I know how to do free website or blog, by splash pages are totally new for me and I wish to know more if you are willing to share.

I would link a spash page, banner, whatever to your own page first describing in some depth how MyLot, or any other program works. If you direct them immediatly to MyLot they may loose interest before the MyLot home page loads. It is soooo sloooow at the moment. Also on your page you can put a link to proof of payment - a screen grab of your Paypal account. This is important to new members as there are so many scams out there and MyLot really does pay promptly. Your page should be in perfect english - no slang - so that it can be translated correctly. Put a Babelfish translator link on your page. Even visitors with pretty good english can come unstuck on certain technical terms. I get my referrals from my website and my page is pretty much as I describe above. 90% text so that the page loads quickly. May not look pretty but it does the job. Check out the green text 'top referrers' bottom left to see my results. Ok, it looks good but only a few hundred are active at any one time and you have to keep getting new referrals to replace the ones who drop out. As you say, getting referrals is not easy and you have to work at it but it is worth it in the end.

Hi Faith! I use traffic exchanges to promote MyLot and other programs that I am a member of and I also use safelists. Both of these have helped me to get referrals. I'm not good at getting them any other way. Great discussion!! Shelia

I haven't heard of any of these things before. I'm still kind of new around here and I have no idea how to get referrals, or what any of that stuff is. I guess I'm here for the discussions, but it would be nice to find a way to earn more money.

I didn't use splash page, but I just promote my blog page which contains the list of my sites on traffic exchange sites. but it's a disapointing result for me, I didn't get a single referral from promoting my blog on traffic exchange site. so, now I only promote my PTP links on traffic exchange. BTW, do you buy credits or you surf for credits on TX sites?
