sometimes make school delay/closing decisions that make you question their sanity? Have you ever kept you kids home do to bad weather, even when the district has stayed open? We drive our kids to school and sometimes it doesn't seem worth the risk.

Oh yeah. Our schools close out here if they even call for bad weather. They do not put down salt in this area. They put down rock of all things. I have never known a rock to melt ice and snow. No wander it is slick out. Most of the roads out here are gravel too. I really don;t think they like paved roads here. We are not from here but we moved here 10 years ago and it is like living in Barney Fife land LOL. U would much rather live in Mayberry though. At leadt the people are friendly and nice and helpful.

Oh yes. Major problems here. We have 13 inches of snow right now and all of the roads look like they haven't been touched. It is hard to get around because they don't hardly do a thing to them. More snow is coming down right now also.

Sounds like you've got bigger problems than the school district. We are lucky in how they take care of the roads here (at least the main roads). Thanks for the response! Good Luck!

i think the schools are crazy when it comes to the weather. just yesterday the closed school and i still have no idea why. it was raining! i have also kept my son home when they had school, they never take care of our roads and that mornig there was a 2 hour delay and right in front of my house a lady recked and i wasn't about to sent my son out in it. i wrong on the excuse that it was because of the roads and i was not taking that kind of chance. it would be crazy!

Thanks for responding, I don't think the school admnistrators care sometimes.

I have kept my kids home before when I thought school should have been called off. I don't think it is worth risking their lives just to get them to school. One day they didn't call off school we had freezing fog all night and the sidewalks and streets were slick as snot the kids were falling down left and right I don't know how someone didn't break something.

Thanks. Definitely, I think icy conditions are not worth risking one day of school. The district is at that point right now where any more days off will have to be "made up", and I think it's making them overlook some dangerous driving conditions.

Yes, I have done this before, for I drive my son to school too. Matter of fact last year, the weather was bad. It was snowing, sleeting and freezing rain all at the same time, but school was still open, they were going to go half a day. I decided to keep him home, and the next day in the note, you have to send explaining why your child missed school, so they can be excused and able to make up the work they missed. I simple put, "XXXX

That is funny! The school's seem to excuse anything with a parent's note so keeping them home has not been a problem. Thanks.
