i was prescribed with celexa about 3 weeks ago, i finally filled it and have been taking it for almost 2 weeks now. ive been taking it just before bed, because it says it can make you tired of drowsy. so i didnt notice any of the side effects. one day i forgot to take it that night, so i took it the next morning (i wake up at 5am) this time i had the side effects, i felt them full force. i had EVERY side effect mentioned, plus some. i started to feel like my blood pressure was going high (i had massively high blood pressure while pregnant, so i know what it feels like now when it goes high) it scared me, but not taking it scares me more, because of the weird things it can do to just STOP taking it. my mom works at the hospital i go to, so i called her and asked her if she would ask one of the nurse about high blood pressure and those pills. well she forgot, so i finally looked it up on webMD. it listed side effects, upset stomach, dry mouth, tiredness, drowsiness, headaches, yawning, everything i was feeling. but then i got to warning signs, and one was rapid heart beat. THATS what i was feeling the first few nights. and when i play with my daughter, i get out of breath, and my heart beat goes CRAZY. it said call your doctor right away. so i called my mom AGAIN, and she told me she was going to have a nurse call me the next day (today) i havent talked to anyone yet. most of all, i dont think its helping me at all.. i feel NO different, im not all that depressed right now anyways, but i feel like im in a fog most the time. i think its making me realize i dont need pills, and i just need to talk about things. do you think that what the pill is supposed to do, will out weigh the side effects later on?? i have another doctors appointment next week, but i wanna know other peoples experiences and stuff

First of all, any doctor will tell you that it takes as much as 4 weeks for an anti-depressant to start having an effect. The side effects CAN go away with time. On the other hand, when I took Celexa (I've tried 8 different anti-depressants) the side effects were unbearable for me. I spent three days on the sofa bed in the family room feeling like I was in a constant hangover. I went off that one pretty quickly. Now, what works for one person will have a totally different effect with another. Trial and error is sometimes what you have to go through until you do find what works for you. I have been on Wellbutrin for 7 years now. My initial side effect was having trouble getting to sleep at night. I was then told to take my second dose earlier in the afternoon instead of dinner time. That helped. Now it doesn't matter when I take it. It doesn't keep me from getting to sleep. If anything the ringing in the ears or pain in my legs (I have fibromyalgia) does. Anit-depressants have been getting a bad rap of late but I personally have found much success. All it takes is finding the one that works right for you. Good luck!

i know its not going to have an effect on my mental state, but the side effects are over whelming, i cant not deal with them. if i could lay around all day then i could take them! lol but having a 1 year old, its very hard to deal with both side effects and her hahahah. and i diffentely feel the hangover feeling you had. i was actually able to see my doc yesterday, and she told me to just stop taking them. my blood pressure was pretty high there. i decided to deal with my "problems" without medication. she said if i felt like i needed something to help, just make another appointment.

I take celexa, but I guess I have been taking it for so long that if doesn't effect me(well, the side effects anyway), but when I was hospitalized they added remron(or however you spell it.) The remron makes me tired but the celexa doesn't phase me at all.

I took Paxil for several years with no noticeable side effects but a few times when I'd run out of it and was unable to get it refilled the same day I didn't feel well at all. Mainly I felt dizzy and lightheaded but also kind of "wired", as if I'd had WAY too much caffeine. However, a few months ago there was a mix-up between my doctor's office and the pharmacy which resulted in my (needlessly, as it turned out) being without it for about 5 days and I was a total basket case. I cried throughout my grandson's whole midget football game, I cried through every TV show I saw that night, including comedies and I was still up at 5 am having a major meltdown. I told my doctor and he agreed I should change to something else so after weeding myself off the Paxil gradually I started taking Citalopram and haven't had any problems with it. I read where you're not taking anything now, which is great, but if you do need to try something else this one has worked for me so far. Of course, we are all different, what works for one person may not work for the next. Annie

Well for depression, medicines are not solution. Do Meditation, try breathing exercise, it will help you balance and handle depression.
