As a programmer, I also work in front of the computer the whole. You better reduce the brightness of your monitor. Try also to rest your eyes for couple of minutes from time to time by closing your eyes or looking to a distant place. Don't wash your eyes right away when your eyes is tired or better if just came from work in front of the computer. Eyes get irritated if they dry up. Don't stare at the monitor too much. Remember to close your eyes more frequently. This way, your eyes' fluid are maintained so as not to get it irritated. :)

There are a lot of ways to protect your eyes. The best way is to place the monitor the very comfort able distance so that it does not create a lot of pressure on your eyes. The brightness of a laugh your monitor is a very important thing. And also I would suggest that LCD monitor is a better than a sea at the monitor nowadays because it emits less radiation and that is good for your eyes and also for their help. If it is possible also get a screen in front of a computer monitor so that it can protected from the radiation if you have a crt monitor. Also if you like you can have a protective specs on your eyes when you are in front of the completed so that it can help you reduce the radiation from on your eyes. But one of the most important thing which you should do if your eyes are long exposed to computer is wash your eyes on regular intervals with cold water so that they are not dehydrated. It happens then your eyes with pain and you may have serious headaches.

You can fit a filter screen to reduce the effect of the glare, or you could adjust the brightness settings to reduce it. The resolution is often a factor, with a higher setting causing a greater degree of eye strain. Personally I believe that the only truly effective remedy is to spend less time looking at the screen, so try using the computer for a while then taking a break before returning to it.
