What do you feed them when they can't

Poop? My 8 year old son has had a problem the last few weeks with pooping. He will go days at a time without going and then when he does go it hurts him. He has not been eating much lately and is being very picky about what he does eat. Any suggestions on what to feed him, so that he will have an easier time going?

I would buy some of that benefiber stuff and add it to his food. Will he drink apple juice? Apples and raisins are great for helping the poop. You should also push a lot of water, that may be a problem for him too. Also, you can lie and give him chocolate laxatives. I know not a permanent solution but we had to do that to my son once. If this has been going on for a while, you may want to bring him to a Dr since that could be a sign of something else.

We have some of that Benefiber, but I was not sure if I should give it to him or not. I will go with apple juice in the morning and try the Benefiber after school, so he is not running to the potty at school.

I don't know how much you would have to give him to not take a few hours to take effect. I would think it would be like eating an apple, that takes a bit to move through your system.

give them anything that is high in fiber. there are a lot of cereals out there that have high fiber and also rasins will make them go to the bathroom as well. good luck and God bless

does he eat nuts? peanuts. juices such pineapple juice or orange juice. well actually fruits can make him poop. its viber. veggies also can make him poop. but i find peanuts really is effective for me. there is a fruit here in the philippines and it really helps him to poop. young and old people from here use it. you can make it into a shake if he does not eat it.

I have a high fibre shake for breakfast every morning and can tell you not going isn't an option. I use hemp hearts in my shake and they are not only really good for you in every way they will keep you regular as can be.

I had not thought of a fiber shake, but I am not sure if it would be a good idea for him since he goes to school early every morning. Don't want him running to the potty in the middle of class.

lots of apple jucie. Fresh fruit like plums and grapes. If that doesnt help try crushing up a laxative in applesauce. Usually the apple jucie will help. Make sure with the added calories he exercises.

The added calories should not be a problem since he has lost 13 pounds in the last 6 months with the medicine he has been on. He does like apple juice. I have some in the freezer I can thaw out before I go to bed tonight.

let him drink a lot of apple juice that should help ,also try to give some extra fruit in his diet, and keep him away from banana's and tea because they both have a way of constipating you also no rice that constipates you also

He does not eat many bananas or drink much tea. We hardly ever have rice. Apple juice seems to be a popular answer.

I would make sure he has a good diet. But would also ask his doctor about a stool softner such as colace, So when he does go it won't be so painfull. Good Luck.

He has to eat his vegetables. Try encouragement. You can also make home fries. Cut up potatoes but leave the skin on and bake them with seasoning that he likes. He'll think he's eating french fires, but the skin contains fiber which he will need. Otherwise, you need to try metamucil bars, drink mix, pills, or even try getting him to take some mineral oil to help lubricate things.
