The amount of rain is measured with the help of an instrument called rain gauge. This instrument is simply a container that collects water of rain in it. It has one or more scales for measuring the amount of rain through the day in cubic inches or centimeters.

The simplest way is by using a graduated glass measuring tube with a funnel in to catch the rain, then note how much falls in a given space of time..
