latest computer developments

I am about to buy a new pc (approx £750/ $1350) I am not a computer geek (!) but would like the best I can get for the money and here in the UK it would appear that Dell offer the best value for general use (bit of presentation work, surfing, video editing). However, I am concerned that there might be new developments on the horizon and don't want to get caught out by anything dramatic/ big! (not just the usual faster, etc. stuff)

Computers, just like any other product, are a matter of personal taste and preference. My friend is an avid fan of the AMD processor, whereas I have always preferred an Intel processor but neither of us is either right or wrong. The best advice that I can offer is to purchase a computer magazine and check out what type of systems are on offer and which would suit you personally. Many of the computer magazines run tests on a variety of computers to compare them, so try to find a publication that offers this feature at the moment.
