Do you think your kids cuss when you are not around?? I mean they know not to when you are around. They hear adults cuss. Did you when you were young?? I did when I was in high school. I did it around my friends, but never around my parents. Now that i'm all grown up I say a couple cuss words around them. But not like I do when I'm with friends.

I sure did when I was a teenager. But then my parents did - not when I was little, but by the time I was a pre-teen or so they didn't hesitate to use such words around me. I plan to restrain myself when my daughter is a teenager, and hope that she will follow that example. But she's 3 and already knows every word in the book thanks to a kid in daycare, hopefully that isn't a sign of things to come! (She doesn't repeat them after I tell her it's a bad word though!)

I understand my son which is 2 1/2 not only knows the words but uses them in the right context. Thats because his dad and his grandfather cusses heavily around him. No matter how much I say "watch your mouth" it never seems to work around some adults. Thank you for responding

Oh, I'm sure my son does try to get away with it when I'm not around. After all, he tries to get away with when I AM around. Like I'm not going to notice or anything. Sometimes, they just like to see how far they can push you, other times they just like to hear themselves.

My kids are all adults now and they don't and never did cuss. It's something I never really did so I think they just followed me. I've seen my son to the point where he should have and looked like he wanted to but he let out a string of very silly words instead. His fiance is a very strict Christian and is the same way.
